Darude...

Anyone else think hes a very good dj...

Hes actually the only radio show I care to download anymore. His sets seem to flow really well with some great variation.

I've also heard from a few people hes a surprisingly good dj out.

From what I understand he's acutally a pretty good trance jock who nobody took seriously for a while because Sandstorm was so overplayed.

I might try to go see him when he comes by if I can get on a free GL.

This. Next time he's at an EDM festival (or rave) in Los Angeles I'll gladly drop by his set.

Guy is top notch and a decent bloke, he had a new years gig a few years back where a bunch of the DJ's knew they werent getting payed cause the promoter was shit and he still played anyways.

For as much as people criticize Sandstorm, when Jules drops it in on his GCSSS mix from 2000, second track in after I need your lovin, goosebumps every time still.

saw him back in 04

nothing memorable

Posted by Imagin on Mar-13-2009 06:29:

Sandstorm was the right track at the right time.

Posted by bamski on Mar-13-2009 06:56:

He's probably my favorite Finnish EDM artist, not for his sets or music, just because he's so incredibly down to earth. True gentleman, never said a bad word in his life.

Also,

sander was memorable back in 04 and is crap now so what's your point?

Posted by bigjimslade002 on Mar-13-2009 07:29:

i saw him the first time around the time sandstorm had just hit the U.S.at the time i think he was a producer first and a dj second, as he wasnt the greatest mixer at the time.he was using cdj's and a computer way before it was in the norm although i think was to compensate for his lack in mixing skills.

because of this his show was more about production than his dj skills.he had these big white screens up behind him that had all kinds of special effects playing on them. it was pretty cool actually.he was controlling a lot of different special effects like the lights ,lasers, movie clips etc by himself.

anyway the show he put on was great!his show was very different for that time. i never saw any dj doing what he was until years later when laptops and cdj's became the norm.he was drinking and interacting with the crowd a lot all night just overall having fun.

then he dropped "feel the beat" and proceeded to come out of the dj booth and dance with the crowd!then he signed autographs for anybody who asked for one.pretty cool guy if you ask me.thats why ill never bad mouth him.and still play his tracks.

i saw him again recently and his mixing skills are much better so hes toned down the productions.but still he played a good set.if youve never heard him based on your opinion of sandstorm id say still go see him at least once.

i think as the years have worn on people are softening up on thier negativity towards him.i see that happening with peoples opinions towards atb now as well.like someone said they had the right tracks at the right time.i look back very fondly on the memories i have around the time tracks like sandstorn and 9pm were popular.im waiting for a time like that to come around again.

This is a good example of why I said what I said, such a great guy.

He also does post on TA, usually in self defense.

Quite succesfully too.

Posted by chrisday on Mar-13-2009 13:14:

It doesn't look to different to ASOT or TATW.. But its the flow of the shows that I really like, seamless thoughtful mixes which work really well.. to be honest similar to the kind of mixing to Armin 03/04. More like a journey rather than track after track.

I often find ASOT is average track after average track, no thought whats so ever.

Posted by david.michael on Mar-13-2009 14:35:

Add me to the list of people who saw him live and said "wow, that was actually a fucking blast".

He does stupid cheesy shit like hold up signs with little messages on them during his set, but the flow and track selection made for a pretty bangin' time.

Posted by Damerchi on Mar-13-2009 18:55:

there was a thread in Tota about Sandstorm, and what happens in regard with royalties for it getting whored at sporting events and such.

Arnej rants off about how he gave it away for a flat fee and darude steps in like wtf are you bsing about arnej.

it was pure ownership

Posted by DJ Taj on Mar-13-2009 18:59:

Have brought Darude out to S.F. many times. He is a great down to earth person without ego. His sets are magical. He def knows how to work a crowd & puts sets together with pure emotion. I highly suggest seeing him if he is in your town!
