matching audiophile2496 output to krk rp6 input

Hi there,

First post here folks, hope its the correct forum! Been reading up on audio interfaces, balanced/unbalanced and impedances & have a question..

I own a new pair of KRK rp6 G2 monitors (active) & looking at the audiophile 2496 interface to connect these and my MicroKorg to my PC. My question(s) relates to matching the output level of the 2496 and the rp6 input.

I am confused where it says that the 2496 has 2 analogue outputs: two, maximum level +2dBV (consumer setting) or -4dBV (-10dBV setting).

What does the -4dBV (-10dBV setting) mean exactly?
Also, I thought there were 2 levels: +4 (professional) and -10 (consumer)? Perhaps i have the 2 confused...

Regarding the rp6s, the KRK website indicates an input of: XLR (3-pin), RCA & 1/4" TRS - 10k Ohm, Balanced / Unbalanced

Does that mean that I could connect the (unbalanced) RCA outs at -10 straight to the monitors -10 input? Recommend a phaselineshifter (eg Ebtech) for balance/hum removal?

Look forward to hearing from you, cheers. G.

Ok, I think you've got your settings confused here. To clarify, +4 is pro and -10 is semi pro. This should be the same through the chain of your kit to avoid gain staging issues. Now *usually* unbalanced I/O is at semi-pro of -10db meaning that if you're going unbalanced to the speakers then you want to have it as -10db. You could psuedo-balance the cables but that's a whole other issue and really not necessary.

My advice is that you want to set it to -10db throughout and yes it will be fine to use RCA to 1/4" unblanced TRS leads. you can use those shark ground loop removers (available at maplins) but I would try it first without them and see if you really need to do it.

It's a great card for the money - I had one for years and it was flawless.
