remixes of modern hip hop/pop songs
Hey, I'm sure this thread has been done a lot of times, but I need remixes of some of the more current mainstream/top 40 tracks.
I'm in high school and I'm doing a gig for my entire grade at the prom afterparty and so far, planning to play my favorite classics such as 'Music Sounds Better With You', 'One More Time', 'Around the World', 'Lady' etc but the guy who's organizing the party asked me to play mainstream songs so I made a compromise to play remixes of them.
Of course I can add some David Guetta and Eric Prydz as my grade is actually pretty knowledgeable about mainstream EDM. Heck, I'm also adding some of my own music that people won't know such as 'Mouth to Mouth', 'Get Deep', 'Diva', 'Orbitalife' and Sebo K's remix of Martin Landsky's 'Let me Dance'. I think these could be accepted well.
So far I have:
Ne-Yo - Closer (Stonebridge remix)
Rihanna - Disturbia (Jody Den Broeder club mix)
Craig David - Insomnia (Haji & Emanuel remix)
Flo Rida ft Tpain - Low (Samman Sexy Ibiza mix)
Eric Prydz - Pjanoo
David Guetta - Tomorrow can Wait (club mix)
David Guetta - Love is Gone (joachim garraud & fred rister remix)
just wondering if am I missing any good remixes? All the ones I can find from Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne etc are shit. Preferably tracks from 2008 onwards but also remixes for mainstream classics such as 'In Da Club' and 'Sexy Back'......
Groove Armada - Song 4 Mutya (Sunset Strippers remix)
Here's a few: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...92&forumid=8&s=
i've done that sort of party before and stuff like 'mouth to mouth' won't go down very well (assuming here you're referring to audion).
go see what axwell is playing, he does plenty of decent mashes that are usually reasonably easy to recreate. one track i found randomly worked was Axwell - I Found U (Dubfire's Summer Of Luv Mix). got zee ladies dancing, has a good grooved bassline to it.
Infinity - Klaas Remix is the ultimate pop edm song at the moment.
Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous Girl (Axwell Remix)
Madonna - Sorry (Axwell Remix)
Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone (Jason Nevins Remix)
Britney Spears - Breathe On Me (Jacques Lu Cont Remix)
Juliet - Avalon (Jacques Lu Cont Remix)
Beyonc - Dj Vu (Freemasons Club Mix)
Luther Vandross - Shine (Freemasons Club Mix)
Well, anything by Freemasons.
edit: And anything by Sharam Jey! ![]()
Mariah Carey - Touch My Body (Seamus Haji Club Mix)
Nelly Furtado - Say It Right (Peter Bailey Remix)
Madonna - Frozen ( Victor Calderone Mix)
Madonna - Hung Up (Stewart Price Extended Remix Dub)
Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body(Sander Kleinenberg Remix)
Britney Spears - Someday (Leama & Moor Remix)
Britney Spears - Everytime (Above & Beyond Remix)
Nelly Furtado - Maneater (RHV Remix)
Coldplay - Viva La Vida (Mike Koglin Remix)
Coldplay - Viva La Vida (Cor Fijneman remix)
Coldplay - Speed Of Sound (Steve Porter Remix)
Linkin Park - Shadow Of The Day (Blake Jarrell Remix)
U2 - Beautiful Day (Mat Zo Remix)

Your DJing a party for high school kids and your only gonna play EDM remixes. Im sorry to say it like this but yes its great to expose people to different genres but I can almost guarantee you will frustrate alot of people when they ask to hear "Pokerface" and instead of the pop song they hear a house remix (expecially a EDM mix of everything).
95% of your school will want the HipHop/Top 40 song they hear on the radio. If it goes over well congratulations but sometimes if you cant bend to what your audience will want to hear you are going to alienate them and it will be a long long awkward night.
I would recommend you dig through Rhapsody or iTunes or something and sprinkle the EDM mixes in with the HH/T40.
Yeah, I considered to do just a section for top 40 stuff early on in the night, just to get all those top 40 requests out of the way, and then when it's around 2 am I play my stuff.
Won't it be difficult to mix in EDM remixes with top 40 since they're in a different BPM range anyway? Most of the hip hop/top 40 are around 85 - 110 while only very few are in EDM BPM range.
You know whats funny? DJ's who think that its their job to play what they like.
You arent a professional DJ, they aren't there to see you.
scumfrog almost specialises in this.
he has a great remix of 'so gone' by monica. pretty epic. love when the piano comes in.. skip to 5:30

Oh right, because I know which tracks they are supposed to like.
In fact, the organizer and the people from my grade have agreed on mainstream EDM and top 40/remixes. I told them what I was planning to play before I accepted the gig.
I'm going to tell you as straight as possible: Don't do the gig! No party is going to be happy after this gig is over.
You are not going to get anything out of doing this. I know you are probably at the point where you just want to be able to play in front of people, even for no money. The fact is that you are going to be miserable, and its going to show in your performance and mood. You are not going to get any contacts from this, and you're not going to get any name recognition. You're going to end up with a room full of pissed-off adolescents who aren't going to give two shits about your "TECHNO" music.
The school is not going to get anything out of this. They are probably thinking "lets get one of our students to play for free...what could go wrong?" The reality is that they are going to end up with a lot of complaints from students whining that "that guy only played TECHNO, and he didn't even have Poker Face!" This makes the school look like a bunch of dolts for hiring the wrong guy to do the job, but who can blame them for trying to stay within their (shrinking) budget?
My advice? Tell the school to hire a Top40 DJ, an agency or wedding DJ that has the updated catalogue and specializes in doing stuff like this. They get paid good money to deal with the BS that us EDM DJs try to avoid!
Believe me, I've done gigs like these when I started out. I was miserable every time because I didn't get to play what I wanted to play, and when I did I got a negative reaction. How could this be? ____ is such a wicked track!!! Yet the people went crazy for "Gold Digger" and "Fireman," while I cleared the floor with my House every time. I DID get some experience, but I did not get any name recognition, nor did I get any real contacts while doing those early gigs. In short, I did not get the gigs I actually wanted, because I had the notion that doing Top40 would help me 'get a foot in the door.' Don't make my mistake.

15 years old and already listening to Audion? You've wasted your youth.

Somehow page 2 just seems to be a repeat of what I said on page 1 complete with the "Pokerface" references lol.
Nothing against you doing this for your friends... Just be prepared when you go to "switch" if people dont start begging for the same songs over from earlier.
When your playing top 40 people wanna hear whatever is on the radio right now. They know the songs.. they know the beats.. they can keep their rhythm to it without thinking. You sprinkle in a few older tracks or some songs that are coming up/on the way out and people will praise you for the set.
