Soulwax

Can anyone recommend a similar sound?

Sometimes their stuff is like electronic rock at times (which is what I'm sort of aiming for). Other times you could classify them into some form of EDM. I love alot of these guys' remixes too, I like the work with vocals.

Looking to break out of the house groove I've been in too much of lately ...

Cheers.

Hot Chip
LCD Soundsystem

Aeroplane

If that's what you mean by "electronic rock"

Not quite sure how to describe what I'm looking for actually.

It's a good start into the sound though, thanks! I'm probably just searching for a distinctive 'rock' type sound (Hot Chip is on/off for me).

Of that list, Hot Chip is probably least "rock" - Digitalism, Spank Rock, and Simian Mobile Disco might work for you as well.

LOL, I just remembered there was an imbecile radio DJ that said "And that was Bush, with their electronic rock" everytime he played "The Chemicals Between Us"

you've obviously been under a rock in the last 3 years.

everything mentioned is good. there's like a billion indie rock remixes / indie-electro bands out there. start googling.

Not exactly similar, but also not too far from Soulwax and the other bands mentioned:

Late of the Pier
Midnight Juggernauts
