Lawler and Tomiie REVIEW

Wow. As you can see, I haven't gone to bed yet so I'll keep this short. Anyone who missed this should promptly approach the closest person around and ask them for a BIG kick in the ass.

Lawler played one incredible 3.5 hour set, definitely one of the best progressive sets I've witnessed this year.

Satoshi also played a great set to open up for Lawler, though not anywhere near the same quality.

Now, bigtime thanks to the promoters of Jet to Ibiza for putting on such an awesome show at a decent price. The decorations, light show, and the many extras helped create a great vibe. The crowd was also great, on par with other non-Saturday events at the Guvernment complex. Sound was very decent, though no phazon.

See you all tonight for AVB at Guv.

Thumbs up

Yeah, I really enjoyed it last night! The music was just so at ease, so danceable.. The beat was very moving, there was no way you could stay still.. It's understandable why they spin this in Ibiza and the night never ends..
Other than that, the decor was not really as good as it could be.. there was no Ibiza feel to it, except those palm trees up front at the entrance and a "cutout" from an airplane with a few seats, which only reminded me how bad I want my vacation to start already. Light show, as usual with goldclub series, was amazing. The crowd was good too, felt like a Wednesday or Thursday

I left at 6ish and I'm up already to take my mom to breakfast Why do people that live up north wake up so early??

Anyways, see you all there tonight probably.

PS By the way, don't park on LCBO parking or in the surrounding it streets. Last night there were about 10 tow-trucks there when I came. And they pretty much cleared up the whole place.

Well what can i say???

Satoshi literally put me to sleep; i was on the couches and i passed out at about 2:30-3:00. What woke me up was the man i went to see, Lawler.

His first 3 tracks were the warm ups, after that the groove kicked in and the whole place was moving. His mixing was nothing short of perfection, and the progressive/twisted/tribal house was just sooo good!! Its like smoking a fine cigar, his music: classy/sexy/dirty and outright a pleasure to the ears.

Honestly I have no idea was he has not been ranked higher then Tenaglia, maybe its just politics..

Too bad the company i came with really wanted to leave at 4:00, so I onle caught an hour or so of his set. I am sure that his set only got better and better as the night progressed.

Setup was great; props out to the people over at B&H. I really liked the entrance; when we walked in they had some guy playing the drums, girls dancing and welcoming into "so called paradise". And those vids of Ibiza were jonezing me out all night, what a party it must be over there..

One last rant: They should have put Steve Lawler on at 2-2:30am, I think less people would've left if the had done this..

Well getting ready for round 2; see all you peeps tonight for ARMIN!!!

Holy shit... what a night!

I really don't know what you guys didn't like about Satoshi's set, because he surprised me big time with those twisted progressive tunes... what a champ!

Steve Lawler definitely raped the KoolHaus (I feel abused) with that jumpy/dirty/chunky house, or whatever that was... holy shite! I'm so speechless, I can't even write a proper review on last nite...

One more thing, before I go recharge my batteries --> Special K, where are you bro? You being one of those "track masters", help me out in finding that tune that was played last nite... it has a vocal (not sure if it's male/female) saying something like "Seduction". Help the brother out if you know what I'm talking about...

Smile

Tomiie was great in the last 30 minutes then lawler tore the whole place apart....just tore it. He threw in some nasty tribal songs....i still hear the basslines in my head, a day and a bit later. Tomorrow i'll go buy LIGHTS OUT vol.1. I was near the front for some of tomiie's set and some of lawler's. You idiots missed it, some ****** yells you suck lawler.....lawler turns....yells fuck you and flips the dude the bird.....this from a dj.....totally tearing the roof of the joint.

OTHER RANDOM THINGS SEEN - charles k arriving in some $100,000 porsche....musta made lots of cash from the guv/koolhaus....oh well...he needs to bring more deejays here.

Anyone have some of the tracklisting from his set?? Just wanted to Compare it to the set in Montreal.

Best Track...DJ Rage -Waiting
Least favourite- Sweet dreams remix

Not sure about what he played in Toronto but in Montreal I was hoping for more deep tribal than he gave but it was still awesome.

Can't argue there. As much as his set destroyed me, I didn't like that one. Some songs should just be left alone and never remixed.

Not to repeat myself, but I still can't believe how amazing that set was....

Did you guys notice Mark Oliver walking around?

Posted by Crazy Serb on Jun-18-2002 16:25:

Yep, and we managed to catch him for a minute...

By the way, brunette, thanks for taking me away from that "little annoying menace"...

Posted by brunette on Jun-18-2002 16:30:

anytime

he seemed like he was disturbing you in your own little world hehe

I guess im the sore thumb in the bunch....

I expected a little more than what Lawler delivered. I've seen him twice before and this was the least favorite. Dont get me wrong, his skills are still amazing, but his tune selection got kind of boring as the night went on. Fav track of the night had to be Guy Gerber & Sahar Z - Kennys Back (Mike Monday mix)
Satoshi was as usual dark, dirty and still one of my fav. progressive DJs.
The Jet To IBIZA was very cool. I was hoping my name would come up on that screen but my luck is shit. Nice touch. Although still cant get use to the dudes dancing in speedo's
TORONTOTRANCE**** if its not too late grab lights out vol #2. Much better than #1 and you will recognize about 3 or 4 tunes from his set at Kool Haus from #2.
Well theres my review.... a little late as usual.
