I'm now a bonafide resident of Southern California. Culver City. Right near Sony Picture Studios. Signed my lease tonight. Whoot.
Now someone give me a job!
I already miss the Bay Area bigtime, though. It's my home!
Anyone have any amazing HDTV hookups (with warrantee?)...also looking for furniture hookups. I had them in the Bay Area, but don't know anyone in SoCal!

Yep, between washington blvd and venice blvd. Maybe about a mile east of Sony Picture and Culver Studio (I've had the chance to work in both lots in the past). Place isn't huge, but it's a super clean place on a super nice street in a nice building. It's in a 4-plex that looks like a big house from the outside...deceiving. I thought it was gonna be an In-Law going by pics, but it's not. And the rent includes electricity along with the gas. I like that.

I mean hookups for HDTV at insane prices.
For example, if we wanted to use him, we could have gotten an HDTV from a close friend/associate/relative/hehe in the Bay area could sell us an HDTV that was being sold as an open box at a insanely cheaper price than they would sell it in the store as (at an open-box price). For example, I know someone who got a 42" $2000+ Sony LCD HDTV through him time for under a thousand bucks...including tax and warrantee.
I feel stupid for not doing it before moving down!
I am trying to get a good HDTV for around $500. No bigger than 37" probably as the living room in our new place is small and we'll be sitting close. I am a person who would rely on brands I trust like Samsung or Sony for HDTVs just about any other time, but I found the new Vizio 1080p 37" TV for only $539 w/ free shipping out of south dakota. Like $140-$150 off the cheapest prices around here (eg. $689 at costco). I've always seen Vizio as a HORRIBLE brand in the past because the picture on their screens are always real green and hard to get rid of, but apparently the new 37" and 32" 1080p models they have are really, really good once you optimize some of the picture settings. Said to be better than any other HDTV int he same price range. I checked it out Costco tonight and yeah, it's up there with the big guys.
But I don't want to wait for shipping. I want to get a HDTV ASAP so I can get my cable installed and taken care of ASAP (since I can't get satellite).

Hehe, I'm truly thankful for the heads up about that, but that place sounded expensive. I got a 1 bedroom with electricity & gas included, pretty nice, on a quiet street, and in a part of the building that'll always keep the place cool inside since the building next doors keeps it nice and shaded (it was 80 degrees out yesterday and the place was noticeably cool inside...and if it does start getting a little warm inside, there are cieling fans). It's not a huge, but the location, cleanliness, amenities, etc make up for it. And it's below the max amount I wanted to pay per month (which was $1,000) considering my situation.

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHA
This is funny....
Why?
Cause Michelle and I just shoved some down our throats. She loves that place.
I'm not a huge fan. I don't like the texture of the meat. And I don't like the salsa. I don't like plain tomatoes and it tastes too much like them.

sucks for you, DJ's play way better in SF than they do in socal
Posted by gerard6975 on Apr-07-2009 06:49:
welcome to my neighborhood dave! and it's so true that Tito's Taco's is so overrated.
If you want very good mexican, try out Tacos Por Favor on Olympic & 14th in Santa Monica. The other one in Culver City is on Inglewood & Culver. I just forgot the name.

no shit!!
In other news, I found a Vizio wholesaler in Orange County that has those Vizio TVs pretty cheap. And open to the public. 37" for $499. Compared to $689 at Costco. Place I found in South Dakota for $539 is actually refurbished. Vizio isn't my first choice when it comes to brands, but picture is great for the price.

He didn't say anything about SF DJs being better than SoCal DJs....he said DJs play better in SF. I take that if the same DJ (like Armin) plays in both LA and SF, you can bet his SF set will prob be way better.
If history is any indication, it's true, IMO! :-)

The marginal utility of saving $200-$300 would'nt be enough for me on a longterm investment like a TV to choose Vizio over a Samsung or Sony. And your Sony or Samsung might actually have a bit of resale when you went to get rid of it. Just sayin. Welcome and good luck in southern cali.
Dell at the moment has deal on a Sony Bravia KDL-46V4100 46" 1080p flat-panel LCD HDTV $930 ($893 w/ DPA)
Best Buy is selling it for $1599

I have a strict budget for my purchase at the moment. I don't have a job...hehe...I'll go a little over it if it's worth it...but that's it.
The plan for this TV (it being my first HDTV since the last couple places I've lived my roommmate(s) have already had swank ones so i didn't need to worry about it.) is to use it in the living room for now and then once I have a solid job again and can get a nice one, get the LCD that I want with the features I want. And put what I buy now in the bedroom.
As HDTV clarity is increasing at a rapid rate and response time decreases (as a guy who works in video production and worked on 100% HD material between early 2005 upto when I was laid off a few months ago, I notice quality differencees very easily between HDTV), I don't plan on any HDTV I buy at this time to be considered a longterm investment. And no HDTV you buy at this time will be worth anything in a few years. Look at HDTV prices a few years ago and how much they are worth now.

Then you should get one off craigslist that is still under some sort of warranty for $400-$500 Cash, if its only shorterm.

Yeah, where I'm finding public wholesalers in Orange county that have the 37" Vizio for $500 ...another place for $550 out the door.
Posted by xCxStylex on Apr-07-2009 09:56:
I've seen costco sales/coupons for like... $500? 550? Perhaps that was for a 32 inch 1080i though.

Doh. I have a car today to drive around. Dunno if I'll have one later this week. I won't be buying my own car until we are cmopletely moved.
Trying to keep my cost at $600 or less, out the door (that stupid CA dispoal fee and tax included, though most places in OC that sell TVs super cheap say no sales tax)
Open Box is fine as long I can get a warrantee.

Welcome to LA, Dave. Sounds like you got quite a decent deal on the apt lease. I'm also shopping for a 37" 1080p tv for under $1000 atm, so if anyone knows a good model please let me know (sorry for piggypacking on your thread
).
