Exclamation Wait, let me get this straight...

So the Xone 92 doesn't have any effects ? Am I correct ? Where do you rock out on effects then lol.....

Posted by Ryan0751 on Apr-07-2009 17:09:

You don't, because they usually sound like crap.

The 92 has filters only, which sound fantastic and are infinitely more useful than the filter/flanger/phaser on other mixers.

If you want more, get an external effects unit or use software effects.

Posted by delusional on Apr-07-2009 19:12:

hmm i like i like

Posted by elFreak on Apr-07-2009 19:37:

effects =/= good.

good music doesn't need it, and a beautiful interaction between 2 or 3 tracks properly eq'ed >efx imo.

Posted by n3lly on Apr-07-2009 20:17:

What they said..

Posted by david.michael on Apr-08-2009 14:14:

Traktor Pro gives me both decent sounding filters and decent sounding FX. IMO, of course.

That being said, I use the filters frequently as a tool, and I only use the FX when I'm screwing around at home and showing them to friends, so take that for what it's worth.

If I had a mixer with a flanger it would be activated 24/7 365.

Funny you should say that... I have a computer running behind me right now in my office and the fans inside of it are making a constant flanger/jet sound.

Screw mixer FX, I'm mic-ing up an old Dell Dimension from now on.

Posted by Trance Android on Apr-08-2009 18:47:

I have 50+ FX on my currently unused DJM909 & also an EFX1000. Since I bought an A&H Xone62 dirt cheap off a mate about 4 months ago I haven't missed the FX at all - not even flanger the filters on the Xone are great

Not even been bothered to hook up the EFX1000 to it yet. In fact I'll probably sell that & the 909 soon...

Well as my first setup I JUST bought a xone 92 and 2cdj 1000mk3's and I believe these monitors that are called RPK. Is that a little too much to learn on ? lol...

Not at all, but the bitch about it is that if you learn on shit hardware, you can play on pretty much anything. You might spoil yourself.

I can't believe you spunked all that cash on gear & only JUST found out it doesn't have FX

Enjoy, great set up you have there

He's also opened himself/herself up to a load of flaming!

It's an amazing setup though and you'll have a load of fun on it.
I was more surprised that you spent the guts of 3k euro on a setup without knowing if this was really something you were definitely into.

I'd love to have a listen to the KRK's (not RPK)... They're suppose to be amazing. Did you get the 5's, 6's or the 8's?

Posted by spdandpwr on Apr-09-2009 01:21:

how much you selling that 909 for? i don't like effects, but that cross fader is teh sex.

back to the topic...a properly produced track doesn't need efx (although looping and a reverb/echo might be useful).

Posted by delusional on Apr-09-2009 02:51:

Hey no hijack lol...

I got the 8's, and Ive been looking @ DJ equipment since I was about 15, I am not 20 years old, and I only listen to dance music ... I do like other genres as well dance music just makes me the happiest. I also played in a jazz band for 4 years so I have some background in music... And yes it was quite scary splurging on this gear lol...

I have a Pio DJM-3000 and the only two things I really love about it are the flange & echo, I can't live without 'em.

On the other hand, I could sure use some proper EQ's

whats wrong with the eq's just wondering, might be a future mixer of mine. are the cuts too low of db? or not enough bands for ya?

Posted by bamski on Apr-09-2009 11:19:

I suck at technical stuff (among many other things), so sorry if I can't describe it the way it should, be, described!

My problem is pretty much what you guessed, the lows aren't low enough. And the ranges are too wide, meaning that the low affects the mid, and vice versa. So an extra band wouldn't exactly hurt.

It only goes down to +/- 26db and thats not nearly enough to kill the bass, thats why I jizzed my pants when I used A&H for the first time.

But if your thinking of getting one, I'm not saying you shouldn't. Especially if you get a cmx-3000 to accompany it, doesn't get much cheaper than that.

Posted by MSZ on Apr-09-2009 11:42:

i find pioneers rack mount dj stuff quite interesting because of the value. i had a feeling about the db slopes though, thanks for that friend!

FX have a time and a place... never say never, but subtlety is the key.

It always makes me laugh when I see people on here go on about how FX are crap and cheap etc then start worshipping people like Zabiela... naming no names

I love a little delay here and there.. No harm in a touch of reverb to add a little drama as well.

With the plethora of effects on offer from Traktor i've actually reduced the list to about 5 or so.

agreed, but sadly many people think that since they paid a lot of money for their unit, they must ruin every track with constant flanging or just doing a bunch of horrible shit that sounds like a robot raping a blender..

Posted by MSZ on Apr-15-2009 22:15:

there is a correlation in my area with effect abuse and not knowing how to dj... just saying.

Posted by n3lly on Apr-15-2009 23:36:

Deadmau5 loves his effects... Sometimes it sounds good sometimes it's a little over kill..

Posted by sm44 on Apr-16-2009 04:08:

I sold my Xone 92 to get a DJM-600. I do regret it a little but i wanted to learn on both and had the Xone92 for about a year.

But i think if you press the HP and LP filter buttons at the same time you get some sort of flanger or different effect going.

But yeah i used to love the filters and resonance. I probably used that more than i use the 8 effects on the DJM-600.

Although echo/delay and reverb are good, and the flanger is okay used maybe once or twice in a set.

Read the manual though, i learnt one or two extra things about the mixer.
