House actor Kal Penn joins White House team

WASHINGTON�The White House has hired actor Kal Penn as a liaison between President Barack Obama's administration and arts groups.

White House spokesman Shin Inouye said Tuesday that the actor who had a recurring role on Fox's TV show House and has starred in several movies would join the staff as an associate director in the Office of Public Liaison. His role will be to connect Obama with the Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities, as well as arts and entertainment groups.

Penn starred as Kumar in the movie, Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. His House character Kutner committed suicide in Monday's episode.

Penn backed Obama during the campaign. The White House says a start date for Penn hasn't been set.

The hire was first reported by Entertainment Weekly.

I was wondering why they killed his character off last night.

Does Obama really need a liason between his administration and the arts....seems like a waste of money.

arts are important... i hate seeing schools cutting arts programs from curriculum. Being such an integral part to myself growing up, I see the benefits that the programs provide.

What's Harold doing in the White House?

I agree arts are important but does the government need a liason person between the two sides....i think not.

lol I actually started watching House on Monday, and when Cutner died I thought he was just a random celebrity cameo for one show. I saw his name on IMDB it he's in 35 episodes!! lol kinda ruined the show for me

lol maybe cos of the PSA at the end of the ep.

So I've watched about half of the fifth season and none of the seasons before. I really like the show but the content of it is pretty repetitive.

Here's a formula on how to write the show:

1) Have someone falling down dramatically either spewing blood or having a seizure.

2) Have the whole medical team arguing that it's cancer.

3) Have Dr. House be a dick to everyone and everyone takes it (especially Wilson, I don't know why he puts up with his crap)

4) Treat the patient

5) Get patient to get sick again

6) Repeat step 4

7) Have House know exactly what was wrong

8) Have everyone saying Dr. House is correct and that he was right all along

Wilson takes the crap cos he's Wilson - back in Season 1 or 2 it was clear that he lets everyone (including his gf's) walk all over him, that's why Cut Throat Bitch was his perfect match
