Increasing mixer output volume.
Hey guys. Just a quick question. I have a DJM-400 connected directly to two Behringer Truth active monitors. The problem is, I know the monitors can take a lot more volume and I want a lot more volume but I'm redlining the mixer in order to do it which I obviously don't want to do. Do I just need to put one of these http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHXENTX802 in between my master out and my speakers and then crank that second board's gains up a bit?
Thanks fellas.
I don't have a DJM-400 but I think I remember reading that there is a little screw on the back that also controls the master out volume try that?

What are the trim controls on the monitors themselves set at?
There are two little plastic switches on the back that change the input from line to phono. You need both those switches and the switch up top to be moved in order for the input volume to be correct. That could be your problem.
Thanks guys. I'll check these options out. Can't believe I didn't remember that there's volume controls on the back of the individual monitors! They're positioned kind of against my wall and I didn't even think about checking the back of them.
looking at this pic, it does have a trim control, i would've mentioned that but i assumed you had already maxed it out

Not being rude but this was exactly the issue I was discussing with you on that other thread a couple of days ago about why i think that DJM400's are total crap. $400 and you don;t get more than one controllable line out.
You can change the trim input on the truths but it's not really the right way to go about it and and a pain in ass if you need to change it often. It will also distort if you jack it right up because the amps will be clipping.
The solution is this: (available at GC - link below).

| Originally posted by miamitranceman Thanks for that. That's a perfect option. And don't get me wrong, I hear what you're saying. The recording/volume problem is definitely an issue, but here, I'm mainly just talking speaker volume out, which would still be an issue even if I had another master out. But thanks for the link though. |

| Originally posted by DJ RANN Hang on, not sure I understand. You're saying you've got you're gains right and the master volume knob is jacked up all the way and you still need more? The 2 x master outputs controlled simultaneously by the one master knob. Usually, to get a decent level going to the second output(such as a recoding device or PC) the output is too loud at the powered monitors so most people add that passive volume knob I posted. This lets them send the full line level signal to the PC and control the volum at the speakers as powered monitors don;t have a volume control. Behringers fed a normal line level input are damn loud, so If you're saying they aren't loud enough, then something is wrong with your setup or you're trying to use them as PA speakers, which they're not. |

I don't turn the master all the way up because then its just redlining, yet I still want a louder sound from the monitors. But the trim on the backs of the speakers are doing the job. I can keep my mixer in the yellow and still be loud. That's all. Edit: And no I'm not talking PA-loud. i've got my Eon 15s for that. I just wanted the monitors a bit louder without clipping the mixer is all. |
