I lay down and close my eyes.

I have trouble sleeping, almost every night.

It sucks balls.

I have trouble not sleeping during lectures. Does that count?

this.

the only time i have trouble sleeping is when i'm trying to take a nap. i love the idea of naps and i'll go lay down for one and be dead tired, but i just can't fully fall asleep. so finally i get up after 30 min like, "fuck it".

I've developed something of a dependency to sleeping with a DVD on, which creates difficulty in me not only falling asleep, but attaining a minimum level of quality sleep. It seems I need to sleep a lot longer when the TV is on in order to wake up feeling semi-decent than when it's off.

I recognize this, and tried turning the damn thing off, but am just left with this eerie silence in its absence; there's just nothing like that warm, inviting glow. I think I'll just start setting the timer.

By the way, anyone doing the same thing should pick their DVD's carefully; Fight Club- WORST DVD TO FALL ASLEEP TO, as anyone who knows what that jarring menu screen sounds like can attest to.

I can nap any time, any place. I'm a big fan of napping. I just can't sleep properly when it comes to my main snooze.

I didn't know you were 70 years old. Given the pics you post, it's really amazing what plastic surgery can do nowadays.

Haha, +1. I posted this in the "music to fall asleep to" thread a few days back..

Same here, last night Sepultura - Chaos A.D. put me to sleep lol.

Nowadays I can't fall asleep unless there's something playing in the background, it's impossible.

But it doesn't even have to be music, leaving the TV on does the same trick.

Well, the main difference is that people at that age are actually going to bed around the same time she probably takes her naps.

No, 70 year olds (and little kids) are the only ones who take naps during the day.

Posted by Paradox Lost on Apr-09-2009 12:30:

I really dislike mid-afternoon naps.

I can never take them without waking up with this incredible sense of disorientation and panic, not realizing for several minutes what time and day it is.

This, added with a slight headache.

And the worst part (for me at least) is that if I wake up from that nap at four in the afternoon, I'll have the same feeling come midnight.
It just doesn't go away, everytime I take a nap my whole day is completely screwed up.

Likewise.

I find it interesting that research into naps (like just about any other research ever done) is so damn fucked up.

On one hand I read a paper stating that basically humans are designed to sleep a bit in the afternoon (ala Winston Churchill) and how it helps with your health in x many ways. but then that same week another study concluded that it increases your risk of diabetes by like 60%.

I pretty much think that anything is good for you will have a negative side and vice versa.

The more interesting question is: Why do you have trouble sleeping?

Posted by Damerchi on Apr-09-2009 13:34:

Stress and constant shit to think about, that and the fact that my radiator is constantly making weird noises that certainly don't help to provide a soothing atmosphere.

Posted by ziptnf on Apr-09-2009 14:30:

Dunno

Man, I slept like shit last night. I dunno, I find when there is a lot on my mind I can't get to sleep. Or I sleep like halfway, where I'm not asleep, but I'm not totally awake. Doesn't matter how much pot I smoke, if my mind is running wild, I can't fall asleep. Usually my girlfriend helps me sleep better, idk just having someone next to you is a bit of an encouragement I guess

I have crazyyy insomnia. I can stay up for days.. it blows

Posted by Ania_xox on Apr-09-2009 14:33:

You have to solve whatever it is that is causing your insomnia.
If you're good at psychoanalyzing yourself then really think about it and find ways to work around what causes you stress - or try to learn to cope with it if it's something unavoidable.

Acceptance therapy

or just let yourself get drunk once in a while
For me, a few drinks = nice relaxation = awesome sleep

PS. Meat - naps are NOT for old ppl and kids. Naps are AMAZING at any age
