wtf cops

So a cop is behind me for a bit. i just passed THAT^^^ speedlimit sign when he turns his lights on me, I look down at my speed and its 50. so i pull over and he tells me i was speeding, doing 52 in a 40. Im like what the shit. I point out to him and I tell him about that sign that was still view, and he just raises his voice to me and tells me that "ITS A 40!" and dosent even turn around to see it or anything. And then he gets all my info, hands me the ticket and he leaves.

So ima take this shit to court, but how would i go about doing this?

i would check your state laws with regards to work zones as some places have legislated speed reductions in road work zones to protect work safety, it might be 40mph in your state, which would mean your fucked. otherwise just make sure you have a a way to prove taht that sign was located where you were pulled over and bring the photos in as evidence for your case.

Get a traffic attorney for sure, as if you go there yourself, they will pwn u in most cases. The attorneys are cheap as well, usually around $100 for their services.

isn't a work zone always 35-40 on non-highways?

Would it be worth paying an attourney $100 bucks or more, or would it be worth simply paying your ticket? 12 mph over the speed limit shouldn't get you more than $150 bucks.

I suppose it would be worth it, the attourney could probably have the points removed from your license also.

It might be, around here speeding fines are automatically doubled in work zones.

Rasta

Just go to court really professional like..... have all your papers in order... clear your throat...pull down your pants, and take a huge dump on the papers.

that should do it

I don't know about other states, but at least in Florida you get points against your license if you get a ticket. If you go to an attorney, you pay them the $100 and you get no points.

And yes, work zones usually cost a lot more.

To be honest, I really don't know wtf the attorney does. I thought I had a decent argument when I got a ticket for running a red light, and I was about to tell the attorney what happened and he was pretty much like, "don't worry about that, just fax me the ticket and give me your cc number."

Next thing I know I get a letter saying that the ticket was removed.

If the speed limit is 55 & the WORK LIGHT is according to your pic u need to drop u speed to 40. Its a construction/ work area.

hope u win it.

The attorney is good cause you can forget about the issue altogether. They will do everything for u and simply mail you a letter saying you won, and best part is, it is completely removed from your record...like it never happened to begin with. If you pay the ticket, in essence you are admitting guilt and it will show on your record. regardless if you go the driving school route or not. Count on your insurance skyrocketing as well.

haha, dude I dunno what they do either, but they always get the shit fixed! Worth every penny!

Illinois is a complete bitch about workzones; they put cameras everywhere and record your speed, since its impossible for a cop to pull you over when there are two cement medians composing the sides of the road...so they just mail you the ticket, which is a minimum of $375 no matter what the speed you were going (and it will get higher depending on how much faster you were going).

That picture, to a driver, would mean "drive 55, and its a work zone" That would be ridiculous for law enforcement to assume you knew that you were to slow down to a different speed when said speed was not posted on a sign. That doesn't make sense; if you have the means to fight it, do it.

They can assume he is supposed to know that a work zone sign means to slow down to 40mph because it's probably a law in his state.

Posted by Elec on Apr-10-2009 21:22:

I don't see a single ****** working there. If people are to take those work zone sings seriously, they should only be posted when actual road work is taking place.
I constantly speed in work zones in Illinois just like everybody else and never had a fine. Maybe they only activate the cameras at night when they're actually working? That would make sense, since during rush hour people just drive their usual speed through work zones on the highways.

Posted by whiskers on Apr-11-2009 00:43:

Yeah, this is fucked... "work zone" above 55mph = 40mph? Someone should at least sue them for confusion or something.

My story: I was once cruising between 75 and 79 on the middle lane of the 'pike and this cop comes in the left lane and passes me doing 85-90mph.

Fuckin' Massachusetts drivers.

Yeah, you are right. It just seems ridiculous if there is a sign reading, with big numbers, 55, when really you are supposed to be going 40. I guess that 'Work Zone' sign should deter people from even looking at the speed limit sign in the first place, because its meaningless anyway.

Illinois may be dickheads about work zones, but at least they clearly mark them and let the drivers know what they should be doing to avoid breaking the law..which doesn't seem to be the case in Texas, where you have to know the laws beforehand and apply them to the situations you may or may not encounter.

I agree on the work part. It's pointless for you to have to slow down to a ridiculously low speed when there is nobody working at the site. It is especially a pain in the ass when there is no traffic either. You are just peddling along at snail's pace for no reason at all.

Speeding in work zones is very common. I do it too. I use the same principle I use when I'm driving in regular zones; keep up with traffic. If everybody around me is doing 70-75, despite the work zone speed limit clearly reading 45, I'm still going to pull off the 70. And, just like you, never received a ticket. I'm thinking your theory on the night time approach is the best bet, since its hard to see, and that's when most of the construction crews are hard at work.

Then again, a friend of a friend told a story of a time he got a ticket in the mail for doing 52 in a 45 work zone which is horseshit no matter how you see it. Ever since I heard that, I'm cautious as hell.

So not only were you going this speed, but a few others as well? Wow. That's crazy. That's fucking fast.

I'm not sure if it's the case any more, but at one point, Illinois was home to the highest rate of speeders out of any state in the country. This was the case for a number of reasons...

1. That Illinois is home to more interstate highways than any other state in the country...meaning a lot of people drive through here since every single direction is covered. Travelers from New York going west, California going east, Canada coming south, or Florida/Georgia going north will probably run through the land of Lincoln at one point or another.

2. That Illinois is mostly flat, and that people will sometimes unknowingly speed since there are very few hazardous areas of driving. I've been cruising along I-88, a flat and boring as fuck road, only to look down and see I was pulling 110. And I didn't even know it. Places like Tennessee and Colorado are filled with topographical features that will likely make you check your speed often.

3. A lot of those speeding remarks come from Chicago, a city that is home to more highways than any other city (a title similar to the one held by the state). Also, it is home to rabid public transportation...meaning Chitown doesn't necessarily experience the traffic nightmares of LA or Atlanta, and people take advantage of that by flying down I-290 at 80MPH. I'm not saying Chicago doesn't get traffic; that's far from true. But there are times when everybody can drive extremely fast, and be able to pull it off since the traffic is flowing smoothly.

Also, good linkage to that site. Of course, Illinois happens to be a state in which workers do not have to be present. Of course.

Haha, yeah I had a similar experience when an Illinois state troopers past me when I was going about 75 in a 55. Needless to say, we both wanted to get to wherever we were going, fast.

Connor I think he meant 160KPH not MPH.

Posted by CONNERMAN2000 on Apr-11-2009 17:45:

Now that would make sense.
