Hypnotic techno help

I know threads like these appear often but I'm looking for a specific type of techno right now. Tribal and hypnotic.

Like:

Laurent Garnier-Dangerous Drive
Jeff Mills-Alarms
All Surgeon
All British Murder Boys

And this Autechre minimix was the exact type of techno I was looking for.

Thanks in advance.

I'm actually always looking for tracks of this nature, so I'd be interested in seeing what people recommend as well.

Posted by Chimney on Apr-09-2009 22:21:

So what is the proper name of this sub-genre? Tribal techno?

Posted by Adam420 on Apr-10-2009 00:44:

Beatport breaks their Techno section into 5 different sub-genres. I've actually been checking out a lot of the "melodic" techno they have for my next mix. But there's other ones, so you should check that out and see if any one of the 5 is the kind you're looking for.

Posted by enydo on Apr-10-2009 00:45:

Oh yeah... fuck I always forget Beatport has those little sorting options.

classiques.

"Hypnotic" is kinda redundant tag, isn't it? I guess (judging by these sample and examples) you're looking for darker, moodier and almost industrial techno. Basically you want UK techno, more precisely so-called Birmingham techno. For a start get this awesome Surgeon mix:

48 tracks in 74 minutes?? Wow. Seems weird but I'll give it a listen before I say any more.

Posted by enydo on Apr-10-2009 17:45:

Surgeon tends to do that but he does it well, I'll be checking that out as well.

Posted by Burn Notice on Apr-10-2009 20:14:

Awesome. Thanks to everyone for the help! I forgot about Beatport's mini subgenre search. Definitely look through there.

Sljiva:
That Surgeon mix is exactly what I'm looking for. I know hypnotic is pretty redundant but this is the only techno that gives me that feeling. Industrial techno is definitely what I'm looking for though.

Posted by Seppuku on Apr-10-2009 20:53:

That surgeon mix is fucking massive. I'm not too crazy about this sound but I can dig it every now and then.

Holy shit, this is massive.
Especially the second half.

I have so much on my mind listening to it right now, but I can't find the word.

MOAR!

I found this dj that does the exact mixes I've been looking for. Deep, industrial techno. Lots of Surgeon, Regis, etc. Great stuff. Another interesting trait of his is that all his mixes have a meaning to them. He puts alot of work into putting a feel and atmosphere to each and every one. His "night" mixes are immense along with his hip hop mixes. Definitely someone that should be heard.

Listened to that Autechre track in the first post, all I can think of is Grovskopa.

yeah srsly, sick

I've downloaded nearly everyone of that guys mixes and haven't found a bad one. His "Father Is Dead" mix is intense along with the "Guns" mix. So far the "Epiphany" mix along with the "Father Is Dead" are my favorites. Abelton or not, he really knows how to create a vibe and pick the perfect tracks.
