Did FW turn the volume down on their soundsystem?

I was at footwork last night... and the sound seemed to be only like 65% as loud as it usually is! Have they been getting noise complaints that forced them to limit the volume?

Hopefully not! because the lack of ooommpphh in the soundsystem sorta killed the vibe for me a little!

maybe you lost 35% of your hearing?

Posted by kaniz on Apr-12-2009 20:02:

I found the system just loud-enough actually (if not a little too loud by the very end of the night). But sounded solid / full and just loud enough without being 'wish I had bought my earplugs' loud.

(*90% of the time I bring earplugs, so I just may have 35% better hearing than you and not need it that extra bit of loud)

You may have more sensitive hearing than me.... but I have been to FW many times before and it definitely seemed lower last night... it even seemed louder when Alicia Hush was playing.

Maybe it was just the fact that the tracks werent all that intense

I remember getting that feeling too. When Hugo played that "truck horn" track (id?) the effect was kind of lost as it wasn't loud enough. I always bring earplugs.

When I was in Europe I remember their clubs running at a lower volume than in Toronto....

How did you guys find Hugo anyways? From what I remember The Sloop was one of the first songs he played but it seemed to go downhill from there for me... just seemed like 8 mins of some repetitive drum beat, then he would switch up the song to another boring 8 min repetitive drum beat... a lot of people I was talking to were sayign the same thing too!

What'd you guys think?

Hmmm I had another commitment so i had to leave around 20 after 2, BUT up until i left i was loving what i was hearing. Hush's set was a lil meh (IMO) for the first half or so but the last 25 mins or so of it was really good.

Yeah I felt that Alicia Hush was really good towards the end of her set... and Hugo started off good but the set just seemed to die down and not really go anywhere unfortunately. Not many people seemed to be dancing to him! Hadnt seen footwork like that since Rene Amesz in the Fall hahaha

I wasn't there.. but everyone I've talked to so far said he was okay.

How were Falasteen and Talal&Zoi? I like that the lineup wasn't your average Footwork lineup. Nice booking and its fun to see their branching out

The Roaches used to play this track all the time and i fell in luv with it, esp that one time on the boat cruise..... perfect boat cruise track IMO!

I know Hugo was using lots of different hardware and was purposely trying to create different effects w/ said gear... I heard him doing a ton of filtering effects specifically...

As well we did do a lengthy soundcheck prior to the show and really made sure the system was on point...

nope... I actually found the system at some points to be too loud last night...

ps. next time introduce yourself

A common sign of hearing loss is a permantent threshold shift. This is when your hearing seems less sensitive to volume than before, thus making you think a sound system is quieter.

If not that, then yea they likely turned it down a bunch. heheh.

All around though, I had a pretty good time at Footwork, first time being there in ages - can't remember the last time I was there actually. Never been to one of the hush/lamb parties, so was my first time hearing all of those DJs and really enjoyed them.

I found the place to be a bit crowded during Hugo and was finding it hard to find room to dance without being constantly pushed around, but wasn't too bad.

Not the biggest fan of Hugo - not that I dislike him, he's fun to dance to / etc, but doesn't really grab me either. I was almost going to pass on going out that night - but my friend really likes Hugo so decided to go out at the last minute, and glad I did go out as it was the most fun I had that weekend.

Was about to head out shortly after Hugo and was heading to the back to the club, then noticed that the music / vibe / etc changed - suddenly there was more room to dance, that the entire club from the front to back was into the music - and was liking what Talal & Zoi were playing at the start of their set and ended up staying until about 4/4:30 or so. The vibe/sound reminded me of after-hours spots like Stereo/Boa which made me happy - havnt felt a vibe like that at a club in a long time.

All around, a great night out, and no major complaints.
