Getting around territory restricted songs (beatport etc etc) *Solved*

Hi lads,

Just thought I'd share what a lot of you are I'm sure already aware of.

But for those of you who have always been frustrated by tracks you've loved and wanted to download but have been hampered by some stupid territory restriction here is a nice how to guide when it comes to setting up a proxy and getting around that stupid restriction.

Hope this helps some of you out.

good info, thanks!

If they won't let me legally download it, I get it illegally.

Someone should sticky this

I just remember some of the lads on here having a chat about how bent it was trying to buy tracks honestly yet be restricted by your territory just because of labels in different countries etc.

Obviously i respect that the artists are represented by different agencies around the world but they should have a solution set in place to deal with online sales of their songs.

Personally i agree with Jarvmeister, but it's sometimes a lot easier to go down this route than to try and find a track that might be difficult to find illegally.

i find it odd that if you find a territory restricted track on beatport, and you check out another online store such as trakitdown.net, that has the same track on the same label, you are able to buy it there.

shouldnt it be territory restricted regardless on both sites?

if this works, a big thanks to nelly

one word... "Juno"

At least the track I couldn't get recently, I'd go to Juno and bam.

It should work,

But have a go let us know and then Bo. (just kidding)

But no it should work. I live in Dublin and our friends in the UK have some services that we can't use over here (BBC Iplayer for one).

Using a proxy allows us to use the program and pretend that we're in the UK. Works a treat.

It's to do with the licensing.

The only problem with this solution, and why I only use it when I'm at the office is sending your credit card or Paypal information over an unsecured proxy. You never know if your info can be intercepted because you don't know who set up the proxy server.

The reason I only do this from the office is because I use my company's proxy server in Poland, which I'm absolutely positive is a secure proxy.

Other than that, of course, it works like a charm

The only detail you normally have to give each time you purchase is your CCV number and not your full card number, and good practice when using the proxy method is to change your password on Beatport prior to connecting through the proxy, then changing it back after you've disconnected from the proxy.

This approach should mean your Beatport account is kept as secure as possible at all times.

Great heads up lads, cheers for that.

Oh, and when I browse Beatport using my company's Poland proxy I get an added tax which I don't get when I'm browsing normally at home.
