-- NATO vs Somaili Pirates?

I dunno, but I think the pirates are more barrrrrrrrrk than bite (sorry, couldn't resist). Seriously--this is movie quality stuff. The Seals fucked those bastards up. 3 simultaneous headshots in choppy seas, at night? Are you fucking kidding me?? If I was a pirate, I'd be re-thinking my strategy about now.

Seriously.

I love how the pirates said earlier how they werent scared of the Americans. Ya, how about now.

Not to be all rah rah USA or anything but seriously, if you`re a pirate right now, maybe considering a new career path is worth it.

a few days later 3 ships were hijacked, and people have taken vows to avenge the deaths of the pirates. I dont think many of them are afraid of death in this context, as it will surely send them to heaven .

lol, they aren't afraid of death. The economic incentive is far too great for that anyways.

Why not sail in escorted convoys?

The merchant ships are being picked off piecemeal just like the Germans did in WW1 & WW2

The pirates have u-boats?

Personally I think the pirates are going to get their asses handed to them.

Another Canadian warship is on the way...

But that's exactly my point! They're taking down huge ships using power boats and little shitty stuff. Sailing in convoy with some measure of escort would deter these ragtag assholes.

If the pirate bases on land aren't going to be attacked, perhaps the navies should set up several checkpoints where they insert a few sailors on the ship with some RPG, guns, and shit like that, and then when the ships leave the danger zone they drop off the sailors at another checkpoint (which would be the staging point for putting sailors on the ships going the other way). I'm not sure about the number of ships in the 'danger zone' at any given time, but between the dozens of navies I'm sure there are enough sailors to put a small team on each ship passing through. In my view, pirates wouldn't want to attack ships if they knew on board each ship were well-trained sailors ready to fuck them up.

People in that country are starving what do you guys expect them to do? Gotta eat somehow.

It really doesn't matter what they do on the high seas. The piracy will continue until Somalia has some semblance of central authority. The ICU seemed like the closest thing they had to that. Anyways, shooting those pirates may seem all heroic and all, but guess what? Now, any American the pirates capture, they'v vowed to execute. Whoever thought the pirates would be quaking in their boots from this incident honestly is clueless. The pirates will simply find a new tactic, and retaliate.

+1

This will probably lead to more people being killed / injured by the pirates.

Until now, they hadn't really hurt many of their captives, right? it was mostly a business/ransom thing if I understand correctly...

If the pirates start killing Americans, that will be unfortunate.

The reality is though, that the USA can't simply negotiate with these people. I don't think the Americans should give them anything at all, and should continue arresting them and persecuting them while at the same time working towards a more stable government in Somalia.
