New computer (sharing files)
Just got my new computer today and wanted to get all my files from my old computer to my new one. What is the easiest way to do this (without burning cd's) ?
everything take time...but would send everything by ICQ
yea i connect both computer to my router and transfer thru aim. goes about 1mb/sec
Put the old HD into your new comp

just get 2 network cards and a cross over network cable, then the rest is easy
you can just use windows to set up a network between computers, and open folders on your old computer from your new comp, and transfer stuff that way...
you don't need to use aim or icq or anything.
the simplest way
slap on your old hard drive (slave) to your new one (master)
each IDE card has room for 2 drives: a master and a slave
you'll have to change the pins to differentiate it as a master or a slave
once you do this, your computer should recognize both drives and you can copy hd to hd
of course on your new master drive, you'll need to set your new os partition as the active partition
Yeah once you have your new harddrive up and running with all ur appz and OS and stuff, just stick the old comp's hard drive in with it. Copy across everything u need, and presto!
If u can't do that, do what someone else said and get two network cards and some crossover cable. Transfer em over the ether .. make sure u get 100 megabit cards though .. 10 megabits is hella slow when ur copying 20gigs .. trust me i've been there

Make an FTP or network ur computers together directly, can get around 100MBS that way.

All you need is 2 network cards (about 30 bucks here in Canada) and some RJ45 cable. You can hook the computers up directly to eachother or through a router or a HUB but PC to PC directly is easiest.
