Footballs top 50 worst signings ever
Inspired by this - http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/...wsstory.sport16 I propose (and Vern agrees
) that we try & do the top 50 worst signings ever in football.
Suggestions
Andriy Shevchenko Milan > Chelsea
Helder Postiga Porto > Spurs
Darren Bent Charlton > Spurs £17 million
Fabrice Muamba Birmingham > Bolton £5million
Michael Ricketts Bolton > Middlesboro £4.5million
add yours & I'll update
Pennant to Liverpool
Brazilian "defender" rafael scheidt that signed for celtic a few years back under barnes/dalglish.
Awful, just awful. There was suggestions at the time that the only reason he got a cap was because his agent was putting pressure on the brazil coach at the time to play him so he looked a better prospect for unsuspecting european teams, after a few games it looked like this was true. sheidt by name, shite by nature.
Juan Veron by United - wasnt that bad but terrible considering the price tag he had to justify
Kleberson by United - rumours had it that we bought the wrong kleberson. Wouldnt be surprised if that turned out to be true.
Djemba Djemba by United
Jose Reyes by Arsenal
Julio Baptista by Real Madrid
The entire newcastle squad by Mike Ashley

Dave Nugent to Spurs/Portsmouth
Pavel Pobryniak or whatever his name is to Spurs
Nugent, perhaps. Pavlyuchenko, not at all, he's scored over 10 goals so far & russians always find it hard to settle in. However as he's a spurs player, he'll remain in consideration
To add a few suggestions
Kevin-Prince Boateng (to spurs)
Alan Hutton (to spurs)
Chris Sutton - Blackburn to Chelsea
Kluivert - to Milan
Henry - to Juventus
etc
Beckham to galaxy - failed to meet expectations both in terms of performance on the pitch as well as having not having much of an impact on the popularization of football in the wes-sayeed
Lucas to Liverpool
Future space reserved for - Lucas to wherever he transfers
If this thread isnt referring to the signing of only players , id throw in Mclaren as coach of england and Sounness as coach of Newcastle.
I'd disagree on the beckham/galaxy one. He's done ok but is proof that in football one man doesn't make a team. People are signing from meidocre british clubs for MLS clubs & that's testament to the lack of quality in the league.
Lucas may yet fill that role, but until he's no longer just potential & becomes unfulfilled, then judgement should be reserved.

| Originally posted by Ian Does Diego Forlan count too? I dunno how much united paid for him, and I feel bad mentioning him because he worked his ass off, probably trying way too hard, but still didn't do much. |

Poulsen To Juventus
Tiago To Juventus
Mancini To Inter
Shevchenko To Chelsea
Benjani to City
Utaka to Portsmouth
Utaka was one hell of a player in France, now he's like a dead man...nowhere to be seen
Ronaldinho to AC Milan
A Bright start, and now he's nowhere to be seen
Menez To Roma
Simone Loria to Roma
and The Top Flop - DARIO KNEZEVIC To JUVENTUS
When you fight off Torino to sign a 26-year-old defender from a team who finished bottom of the league and conceded 60 goals, you are not buying quality. Luciano Moggi said it best when he sniped after a 2-1 defeat to Napoli, "Who is this guy who partners Giorgio Chiellini in defence? Kne...kze... I cannot even bring myself to pronounce his name. He is at best an average player and should be plying his trade in Serie B.”
