Question What Vst EQ's do you use

Hi All,

I'm just wondering what good Vst Eq's there is and was also wondering what ones people prefer and use.

I've alway's used ableton but now i feel i need more acurate and better quality.

Also one of them has to have a sharp slope cut off....

I'm on Pc and windows Vista...

So can anyone help me on this.....

Cheers

Waza

Is there an EQ with stright cutoff? Like, say you want to cut 500hz to 1000khz, but you want 1001khz and 499hz completely uneffected, and everything between them completely level at a lower volume.

So in this image at 500hz to 1000khz every hert is exactly 12 db, while the rest is 0db [an example] every Eq ive tried has a curve, if i cut 500hz it doesn't actually reach 12 untill like 550hz or something [this make any sense?]

I want the EQ wavform to be a square not a sine :P

Ive tried waves and fl eqs to no avail.

How can a vst EQ have more quality then your daw's internal EQ

Posted by Waza on Apr-16-2009 19:46:

well for instance your daw eq say ableton against Waves plugins..

There obviously not going to be the same quality as waves are in the very expensive side...

so do you think they will sound the same i don't

Posted by orTofnChiLd on Apr-16-2009 19:51:

yeah thats true

i just want some nice sounding eq's but not at waves prices....

i don't mind paying a few hundred but not thousands..

Infinately steep filters are impossible in the analogue or digital domain AFAIK.

Posted by cronodevir on Apr-17-2009 04:41:

Why is that? And its not infinite, its a cut off instead of a slope. I want to remove certain frequencies in very tiny doses. but keep keep the stuff inbewteen them intact, I can't do this accuratly with any EQ ive tried.

I can't make 500hz 0db

501-522 -6 db

522-1735 -12 db

etc etc...

Ive gotten close to having an absolute line. Say for instance I cut 500hz and below ..the sharper or faster down I go..the more 500-540hz are boosted. So in the end 499 may be dead silent, but 500-540hz would be like +32 db o.o..then the spike evens out at 0db around 560hz and on...

cheers for all you input i'll head over to kvr later and have a browse....

Sonalksis EQ... IMHO one of the best on the market!

Waves plugins are pretty steep but if there is one plugin I can't live without, its Waves R-Bass. Its honestly the most effective plugin I've ever come across and simple to use. The meat it adds to your kicks and bass for that matter is awesome as it seems to add some awesome tones at the same time.

Honestly check it out.

Posted by Waza on Apr-17-2009 10:34:

Yes i've heard the waves r bass the studio i goto has all the waves plugins and your right it add's to it..

I can't afford a waves bundle that's just too expensive..

I'll look into the sonalksis eq's they look nice..

No use to obsess over this my friend.. Steeper slopes than 48db/oct at MOST, would sound very unmusical/unnatural. Just make do with 48db/oct and less.
I once heard of a filter that could cut at over 300db/oct. But I cant seem to find it.

Anyway, it should be about the SOUND, not the math when it comes to music. But if
youre just curious from a scientific perspective - then ok.
