Windows - What speaker type do you specifiy?

Studio monitors are not a choice, the only one that seems right is the desktop stereo speakers.

what does everyone else use

40$ Creative Labs monitors and woofer :P

i also suggest going stereo if you can afford it. Your stereo imaging for mixing will improve drastically.

I have a feeling you misunderstood the OP.

He asked what speakers we use. I told him.

rofl im guessing he wondered what setting u use. but again ur on linux, im guessing linux doesnt even have an option to select between headfones, onscreen speakers or separate speakers (most likely big ones), eventhough it doesnt do anything. what i think is that windows developers where planning on having 3 output jacks and this option selects between them if u have all, like a monitor selector, but develop stopped somehow and if they remove it they will have viruses all over the place. im guessing its safest to select anything uncommon beacuse of virus issues.

I think he was talking about that.

Honestly, i've tested the different options and don't notice a differece. But just to be safe, i'd say leave it on Desktop Stereo Speakers.

and where do u choose if u have a sub? windows needs an upgrade

When you get into more advanced interfaces like MOTU, RME, Apogee, windows doesn't even give a shit ... it says "no audio device detected.".

Thanks Eric. I didn't think I would need screen shots to get my point across. I figured this was something that many had wondered before and could easily answer. I did my due diligence and tried to find a good answer on google, but no juice. I too have tried the different settings, and using my Yahama HS80M's it doesn't appear to matter.

I'm surprised some audiophile's havn't eaten this option, or lack of options, alive.

I had a major WTF moment when I read this. Be more clear next time, I had no idea what you were talking about!

That is so true... :P

Your AI won't even let you change your windows volume when you get one. it's like "nuh uh, you use MY program to do what you need"

In vista, it changed though. Their audio settings/mixer totally changed. I kinda like it too.
