The Skool thread (how smart is TA?)
I'm sure this thread has been made before, but I am interested in how far the members on this board have gone with their education. Currently I'm at the University of Louisville pursuing a Masters degree in Computer Engineering and Computer Science, and hopefully after a few years in the field, come back for my Masters of Business Administration (MBA).
I'm almost finished with my Undergraduate degree, and shortly thereafter will start on 2-3 semester Masters program. My university offers a 5-year program where you walk in with 0 credit hours and are able to leave in 5 years with a Masters. It's also a requirement that you intern at a company for 3 alternating semesters. As I said in the Vacation thread, I work for a travel agency (The Travel Authority <-- I built this site btw
) during my co-op semesters. It has given me lots of experience in the field of software development and I hope to continue along the same route.
I currently have a 2.7 GPA (yeah I know, I get C's sometimes, sue me) and will hopefully work somewhere that earns me in the neighborhood of 60,000 - 70,000 annually a few years after college.
How far has TA gone with their education, and what do they intend to do later in life?
Just finished year 2 of 4 a special honours degree (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). Have an A average...dunno what it would be in your GPA system, we don't do it that way.
After I graduate and work a certain number of hours I'll be eligible to apply to a Master's program. I will either just do advanced practice nursing, or become a primary care practitioner. Depends how much money I want to make, how much responsibility I want to have, and how much of my own time I want to give up, lol.
Nearing completion of an M.A., 3.75 GPA. It's on an indefinite holding pattern at the moment though, as I look for an employer willing to pay for my last semester.
i've bounced around between 2 colleges since i was 21 and haven't finished either lol i have 2 1/2 years under my belt between the 2 of them. one was a private art college where i was going towards a bs in advertising and the other one is just a community college here in ft. lauderdale where i was taking basic GE courses like english, sociolgy, etc...
my GPA in both schools was pretty normal/good. i mean when i sign into my accounts i'm in the "good academic standing" status.
i really don't think going to college automatically makes you smart. i mean if you are a hard worker and can manage your time and have basic reading comprehension skills, you can go to college. unless we're talking about going for a biochemistry degree or something though. obviously that's a different story. i have a friend who hasn't gone to college at all and he's sort of a "loser" in a sense that he has a hard time keeping jobs and stuff, but i'm telling you right now that kid could walk into any college level physics class and breeze right through it. it's a shame actually that he has mental problems, he truly is a genius.
Just starting a BA in psych and anthropology. GPA was 3.67 (A- average) as of last semester, but it should go up once my grades for this semester come in.

Ok sweet, thanks.
The next two years I'm really gonna nerd it up. Goal is to have A+ average. I would have this year, but I got 2 marks under 80.
And it's not even the marks I'm after...I just want to really know my shit, lol. Even the 10-20% of stuff I don't know right now makes me feel like there's a huge deficit in how effective I am. I realize that's the kind of stuff that will only come with time/experience, but I want it now, lol.
I'm so hard on myself when I don't know something and feel like I should. I dunno when I became so type A.
It kinda varies depending on the schools though. Some schools don't have A+, so their GPA is capped at 4.0, but that doesn't mean it's equivalent to a 4.0 in a school with A+, so it's a big mindfuck.

Academics has always been my thing, except in HS when I didn't give a fuck and totally failed everything after grade 10 - sometimes twice, lol. So I guess I'm really just back to the way I always was.

I don't really like it, I would prefer a system like a 10-point grading scale: 100-90: A 89-80 : B 79-70 : C 69-60 : D 59-0 : F And if you are really close to a higher grade (suppose you have a 79.2) you would get bumped up to an 80 and get a B. That would be ideal in my eyes, but hey, we can't all have what we want. |
