Miss California's Answer Reallty That Big of a Deal?

While I didnt watch the Miss USA pagent, and while I dont have a problem with gays getting married to each other, I dont understand the fuss over miss California's statements.
http://omg.yahoo.com/news/perez-hil...-crown/21528?nc

Perez Hilton, an overly annoying gossip reporter (who happens to be gay), asked her for HER opinion on a question, and you know what she dared to do? Actually answer the fucking answer truthfully.

The irony is that b/c she doesnt fully support some gay rights, that actually makes her a pretty good representative of California. I mean, she echoes the setinments of most Califrornians who went out to vote several months ago.

I think that by punishing Miss California for her words will ultimately hurt the gay community's rights on marriage issues nationwide.

who cares? i mean honestly. she's hardly the first american bigot to open her mouth on the subject. i can't begin to care what any miss US thinks about anything.

meh- i think it was a perez hilton class A publicity stunt

Posted by Audigy7 on Apr-21-2009 15:47:

I always love the "I don't think gay people should be allowed to marry, no offence." Oh, so I shouldn't be offended because you said no offence; got it!

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Apr-21-2009 16:13:

Right?

No offense or anything, but I personally and arbitrarily disapprove of your lifestyle, so much so to the point that I will support civic impediments towards you living your life the way you would like, despite the fact that it probably has absolutely nothing to do with me.

Or something like that.

Posted by Shakka on Apr-21-2009 16:16:

So she's not entitled to her own opinion? Just because you disagree with her answer doesn't make you more right or her more wrong, it just means there is a wide gap of disagreement on a subjective issue. Big fucking deal.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Apr-21-2009 16:21:

Aren't the rest of us just entitled to our special little opinions, too?

Or maybe the world is just a big ol' idealistic grab-bag, and there is no such thing as objective truth or even logical justice, and nobody is more right or wrong than the next ape, so let's just not share our opinions anymore.

Posted by CHRles on Apr-21-2009 16:32:

But that's just it, she did share her opinion. She wasn't the one who brought up the topic, meaning she wasn't trying to offend anyone.
She was just saying what she believed marriage meant to her, and let's face it - this is becoming a hot button topic in some states. Her reply is valid in the eyes of many people, and the gay community knows that progress on this issue will take time.
By revoking her title as Miss California I'm guessing the paegent ended up pissing off a lot of people in Cali who do side with her, or are on the fence with this issue, and also encouraging other paegents from refraining to speak their minds.

Bottom line: Gays taking their frustration out on Miss California is just ghey.

fair point.

i actually couldn't care less whether gays get married (they definitely should have equal rights), but gays are so fuckin annoying with imposing their agenda on everyone else. Seriously, whether gays get married is such an insignificant issue for 90-something percent of the country. Much of what they seek can already be accomplished by contract (e.g., health care proxies, wills, health insurance, etc...), and many companies already provide the same benefits for same sex partners.

Moreover, they have the advantage of not having to make support payments or to split wealth upon breaking up. Why fuck up a good thing? It would be a pretty sweet deal if there was no marriage because then my girl wouldn't have bothered me for 2 years about proposing to her. I also could have avoided buying an expensive engagement ring. Shit, since i make more money than she does, i would never have to worry about making support payments (which would totally suck). most straight guys i know would be entirely cool without the "right" to get married.

Trolling through some gossip blogs, I found some interesting/humorous/what have you commentary.

From Perez' site, some of the comments (all flamey and such)...

http://perezhilton.com/2009-04-21-d...iss-usa#respond

quote:

You really are an idiot. Totally intolerant and way too emotional. You expect society to be tolerant but you are a hate monger.

P - let it go. She may not have given the best answer possible, but she has every right to state her own personal beliefs even if it cost her the crown. Don't put yourself on a lower level by beating the dead horse. Keep posting the emails of the biggots who are writing you though - thats awesome!

Political correctness has cost us our right to think for ourselves!

You may have shot yourself in the foot on this one Perez. While Miss California is White Bread conservative, your hissy fit makes you look like a raving, angry gay with an agenda.

You made a GREAT POINT to say how she should have answered regarding individual states should decide for themselves, but when you resorted to name calling, you discredited your cause.

Love you anyway!

oh my GOD would you get over this? you're in your 30s for fuck sake, grow up!

No what she is saying is SCREW BEING FAKE! You are SUCH an asshole Perez. SHE HAS A RIGHT TO HER OPINION, NO MATTER WHO SHE IS AND WHETHER SHE IS IN A BEAUTY PAGEANT OR SOMEONE WALKING DOWN THE STREET. YOU ARE DISCRIMINATING AGAINST HER, SO YOU ARE NO BETTER THAN HER! GET THAT THROUGH YOU FAT POTATO HEAD YOU PEDO

WHATEVERcan we move on?
.
.
Newsflash: Americans don't all think the same about the same thing.
.
.
She IS an idiot though

Wait. Obama and Biden are against gay marriage. So, I guess we have a politically insensitive president, right? And Miss USA is a beauty title, not a political office. Not sure if you got the memo or not, donkey.

I see nothing wrong with her answer. She is entitled to her opinion just like you are. You have no right shoving your views down our throats just because you feel that you and all gay people should be allowed to marry. Just like I won't try and shove my views down yours on why I don't think you should be allowed to do it. You should of never asked that question knowing that there are people out there that do not see it your way and never will. Now you attack her for her beliefs because they do not conform to yours. Good for Miss California for sticking to her views and not letting anyone back her into a corner.

Last I read twenty-nine states have a constitutional ban restricting marriage to one man and one woman. I don't know why Perez champions Vermont as being some big turning point for his cause/agenda.

Good job Miss California for sticking to your beliefs! We are all American and allowed to speak our own opinion!!!! She never said she was going to parade for same sex marriage! Get over it Perez!

etc, etc, etc...

and from another silly gossip site:

quote:

Ms. California Carrie Prejean went on the Today show this morning to defend her answer about gay marriage during the Ms. USA pageant Saturday night. Prejean is religious, so when asked by Perez Hilton if gay marriage should be legal in California, she said, in accordance to how she was raised, I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. This dumb bitch, as Perez called her, should have given a more inclusive answer, and deserved to lose because of this. In an unrelated topic, Perez voted for Barrack Obama, who said, I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. Anyway, on the Today show, Prejean said:

"I did not want to offend anybody, but I think with that question specifically, it's not about being politically correct, for me it was being biblically correct," she told Lauer.

Obviously Perez thinks gays should have the right to marry. Which is fine with me, I dont really give a shit. Look, I just got dumped (which is why Im so out of it today), I assure you, Im all in favor of a relationship where a guy doesnt have to deal with women and their fucking insanity, but Perez is a narcissistic sociopath who attacks anyone who disagrees with him. How is this dude on TV and Im not? Id rather watch a show where they just bring out some sick kittens and watch them die.

Anyway, this is dumb.

Another one I like to visit for shits & giggles said this:

quote:

Apparently this is has become a big story the last couple of days. Perez Hilton is judging the Miss USA pageant. He asks a question about gay marriage. A contestant answers that shes not fer it, shes agin it. He gets upset. She comes in second. He goes on his web site and does an angry rant where he says Miss USA is supposed to unite the country, not divide us, and calls her a dumb bitch. Cue the TV talk shows and the blogosphere and the editorials who have all made fodder out of this. Personally, I couldnt care less about gay marriage or this controversy. My only question is: What is a gay guy doing judging a beauty pageant? With all due respect, wouldnt choosing the sexiest woman in America be the last thing Perez Hilton is qualified to do? Its like asking a vegetarian to judge a BBQ cook off.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Apr-21-2009 18:56:

That's all well and good to have an opinion and all, but what people adamantly opposed to gay marriage/adoption so conveniently take for granted is the fact that they can opine as they please, then wash their hands clean of it due to the fact that - well - they probably don't know a single gay person in the first place. It does not affect them, it never shall affect them, and it probably never could affect their lives in any way. They have no reason to truly care, much less any reason to go against what was likely their upbringing and current social circle of like-minded people.

I wonder how those people would react should their "right" to practice religion be stripped from them because others don't approve of their lifestyle. But that would be even more reprehensible though, wouldn't it? Because people can choose to be religious - they do not choose to be homosexual.

i guess perez hilton was getting worried that his 15 minutes of fame were up so he decided to make the miss usa pageant about him. why is he even a judge to begin with? are the people running the contest that hard up for money that they had to settle for some fat ugly ****** who makes his living drawing cum stains in ms paint?

Heaven forbid someone has their own opinion...

Some people need to grow some thicker skin out there - there's always going to be someone out there that doesn't agree, present situation aside - not a big deal.
