Be Cool! Coming May 2009 - Spundae Returns to San Diego

Posted by henryv on Apr-23-2009 09:24:

good news! looks like more SD trips for me.

Posted by bigperf on Apr-23-2009 17:18:

interesting choice of locations as these are more of what the lata's would call "boogie hollywood clubs" (area, green door etc)

wonder what night(thursday makes sense due to their events on friday in SF, and in LA Saturday)
and giant/eventvibe having friday events at spin.
in the end, more competition is great for us!

Craig Smoove?
Dj Fresh One?
Sid Vicious?
Scooter and Lavelle?
These are the kind of DJ's these venues attract.

I assume spundae SD will focus more on house music than trance/techno, i dont think there is much demand for techno or trance other than the artists who might drop in to the eventvibe clubs on fridays and saturdays.

strict dress code keeps people out
vanguard in la should have a dress code on david guetta, armin or kaskade nights, i hear it gets sardine packed in there, you cant even move!
if you arent comfortable, how can you enjoy your night out?

what great news, I always love to party in sd. its a great city. And of course spundae is going to do it proper no matter the venue the chose

Posted by DaveT on Apr-24-2009 04:42:

YOu never know what influence Spundae will have...

I say this because..

1. When Spundae went over to Ruby, Ruby was basically entirely house & electro bookings....Spundae brought in the trance. And the whole presence of Ruby int he city changed. I hated that dman place, but it grew on me as the crowd and the music changed. Oh yeah, and they soudn system. And Ruby actualyl somewhat enforced a dresscode there back then too. I I've been with people not allowed in because they were wearing jeans with a t-shirt (even though it was a nice t-shirt) because it wasn't with nice shoes.

2. When the coalition of promoters at Avalon changed (and Spundae became a part of it) Avalon went from having trance DJs to it being a policy to not having trance DJs.

Anyhow, ya never know.

Dave! I have a question and sent you an email!

Posted by darthseph on Apr-25-2009 08:28:

I think its a shame that if the company comes back, they don't look to other talent than just locals that have been around for a while.

I understand the business sense of using them, but there are so many DJs that have good talent and great music that don't get gigs because of politics and whatnot. I'm not just saying that because I'm one of the guys looking to step up and bring good music to venues and groups in San Diego... I'm saying it because I see great talent who gets to sit a twiddle their thumbs because of politics when they have releases on Worldwide recognized labels and are successful otherwise.

It's just a shame to see the same 5 guys at every club event every month. That's all I'm saying. People need to be given more chances.

Tip #1: Network
Tip #2: Network
Tip #3: Network

The thing about just about an local DJ who gets booked is that they first network with the right people. They don't bombard it, but go through the right avenues to get to the know the right people who will spend time listening to a demo mix and stuff.

Also, the ability to show you can draw your own crowd helps...and being good helps too.

Tip #6: Network
Tip #7: Network

Anyhow, just saying this of my own accord and not as a rep of any organization. I just suggest you work on networking with the right people who can lead to you to meet the right people.

I only go there here and there because i know people that work there. If i didn't have friend working there i would have never gone.

I rather go to the Stingaree then there LOL

Hey Nero, dont hate on stingaree lol! Hasnt it been voted best club in SD 3 years running?

To appease all my friends thats where I celebrated my birthday last week, had a big group staying at the Solamar right accross the street making it super convenient. It was a really good time, and the DJ on the roof was playing music(cheese?) from all the guys we talk about wanting to see play(prydz, kaskade, morgan paige, guetta etc)x

bro, i feel ya. the politics of the business SUCK balls. I'm sure Spundae SD will be off to a fresh start so it'll be all open game. I'll be headed down whenever the first party is. We should have drink (you buy though ).

Amen to that... Vanguard is super ghetto I think it should def have a dress code not only on those nights mentioned but all the time I am willing to bet that in the long run it will pay off. Yes at first many dumbasses will say ohh screw that man I am not going but when word spreads that the crowd has changed and its better it will work out for the club.

I'm no longer with eventvibe

I think the 'vibe' at ivy will probably change quite a bit when spundae comes in. The promotion company has a lot of control over that sort of thing, especially a company with as much clout as Spundae
