I would say that 100+ people dying from a deadly virus which has the capacity to kill thousands worldwide is fairly big news.
If Brad Pitt were to get a new haircut there would probably be more of a fanfare.

I am honestly open to discussion on how this strain of flu is somehow more dangerous/aggressive/alarming/scary/etc.etc. than the regular flu and the many strains that already exist. Please provide sources. Kthxbye.

the fact that this is killing healthy people is the problem. Normal flu kills the immunosuppressed and the elderly/children.

This flu is different because it's an entirely new strain. There are no current vaccines (unlike existing flus) and it's a far deadlier version. As narcism said, this has the potential to kill healthy adults. "Normal" flu strains do not.

There are new strains pretty much every single year... that isn't something that different than any other flu strain.

On average, there should be 173 people dying every single day in order to keep up with regular flu deaths. Still not sure how it is deadlier... it hasn't surpassed regular flu death rates.

i have not seen a list of names, ages, medical conditions of those who have died. I highly doubt anyone will, its called medical confidentiality. You might want to keep checking back on the world health organizations website.

Every time the flu comes around it's a unique new strain (or mutation). That alone would not be enough to alarm anyone.
The main difference with this strain is that normally flu kills the very old or the very young, or people with pre-existing conditions (such as AIDS) or severely undernourished people with little access to medicine in the developing world. Deaths of healthy people in the developed world from flu are extremely rare.
This particular strain seems to be killing some young healthy affluent individuals... Which is not good since influenza (unlike most fatal diseases) is spread very easily.
