anyone know if its better to mix with wavs rather than mp3's?

Posted by Watts on May-03-2009 15:34:

I use FLAC files with Ableton Live when I'm not using vinyl.

Posted by delusional on May-03-2009 15:41:

I'm pretty sure wav is a higher quality than mp3 for deejaying o_0

flac all the way, lets you be an audiophile at 1/2 the hdd space as wave/aiff.

Yes, it is.. Wav is lossless (no compressing) but mp3 is compressed. All in all you can't hear a big difference between 320k mp3 and WAV/CD.. 320k mp3 is fine for djing because some radio stations use files below that rate.

For my last mix I recorded in wave with 32bit floating point. Unfortunately the songs I used originated as 320kbps mp3s so lost some quality there..then back into mp3 for uploading. I always try to get the best quality I can, hard drive space permitting.
Gonna have to look into Flac.. when i've listened to flac files in the past I've been very impressed.

the bobby west virginia format. it sort of acts like melodyne in itself, you can pick every single channel from the track apart. basically acting like stems. it's an amazing new technology
