Thumbs down Danny Howells - Flight Home [Dig Deeper]

Sounds like Danny shoulda got some sleep on his flight home instead of trying to make a dubstep/dnb record. wtf man.

Fuckin hell Danny.

Same here, I've been rocking the Trans guest mix as well.

Danny does downtempo, breaks, house, disco, techno, trance, prog...all very well mind you. Should not be doing dubstep. Leave that shit alone danny!

i like it.

Posted by montana on May-01-2009 18:07:

and this isn't dubstep

Posted by Sand Leaper on May-01-2009 18:45:

Yeah, this is most definitely not dubstep. It's a pretty straight forward drum n bass-track, albeit a pretty mellow one. It sounds pretty decent to me. Nothing extraordinary or terribly original, but still a smooth and atmospheric Good Looking-esque number with a nice bassline.

Good to see that the man isn't afraid to make something different.

A few questions...

Why should an artist follow a designated genre path?

Do you know ANYTHING about Danny Howells?

Why make a thread about a release you're not interested in or don't like? Fucking Hell Mark.

I listed 7 genres above that Danny excels in. He is permitted to operate within any of those, just not drum n bass. I know a lot about Danny I'm a superfan. And as a superfan I reserve the right to give an honest opinion about the artist I love.

You might be a superfan, Britney Spears has superfans, but do you think they know jack shit about music? I think what you are lacking here is music appreciation skills / knowledge, since you think you can predestine Danny Howells to genres. Also if you were a superfan you would have known Danny Howells does not follow any sort of genre, he does what he wants, and that is why many of us are "superfans."

I just think its poor music appreciate culture, to limit artists to genres, and to come out and premptively start a thread with a negative review of a new release. If you don't like it, just let it sink, that is the best thing you could do to a release you don't like. Let the people who enjoy the music bring it up, and then chime in.

lol I knew you would come back with a novel.

The truth is, Danny Howells needs my opinion like I need your opinion.

By the way, the Juno sample that you are probably basing your review or lack there of. Is nothing to go by.

Listen to the Full version. This track is SICKKK. I'm loving it.

The beat is something you would hear at a Jazz Club. Its not dubstep at all. Its more a twist of New York Hip Hop, British Rock, and Jazz.

The pads and atmospheres take you to another place, the bassline is serious. Overall feel of the track is quite psychedelic, what is not to like about it? O wait you probably didn't even listen to the whole track, and said "Danny Howells, why are you breaking MY rules?" rofl.

Another thing is, you probably havent heard something like this from him is because he never had a platform like this to release this type of stuff, now that he does, he can release what he wants.

Fair enough.

Sounds great. Def. not dubstep bc I can't stand dubstep.

Posted by GoSpeedGo! on May-01-2009 21:14:

Original mix sounds great actually.

Posted by Clovis on May-01-2009 21:15:

This is better than the other music he's put out on Dig Deeper...

Posted by sot on May-01-2009 21:19:

agreed,

that juno sample definitely sounds wack if you judge the track just by that sample but in its full entirety, it's pretty damn good if you ask me.

Have you ever heard jazz music?

Posted by stylusmusic on May-01-2009 22:00:

Danny's original is a epic downtempo track. The remix by Matrix (as in ... & Futurebound) is rip-snorting drum & bass.

open your minds people...

Go on then, show me a double bass player that would produce a bassline like this during a jazz session.

Ok this one will be short. The OP mistook the Beat as Dubstep, so with a slight hyperbole I said the beat is more of a cross between New York Hip Hop, British Rock, and Jazz, and not Dubstep. The bassline, which wasn't part of the beat structure description is something you would find in Progressive Breaks, Prog House, Laurent Garnier's Techno, and DnB, not Jazz. But i'll be nice and excuse your lack of reading comprehension or context analysis skills.

Oh dear.

I'll just take that as a "no".
