Red face [Tech House?] OrgaNik - The Beacon [Full 320]

Hi there.

Here's something I did yesterday at work because there was no actual work to be done. It started as me messing around with some effects and... well... that's more or less how it finished as well

I'm not really sure if this is tech-house (I have no idea what it is, to be honest) but it turned out pretty fun so I might as well share it with you lot. This has some similarities with XA-202, a track I did a while back (though I doubt anyone really remembers it) - no real melody but a lot of interesting sounds going in and out.

Anyway, here you are:

OrgaNik - The Beacon (6:46, 320 kbps, 15.5MB)

Enjoy.

Great, nice to see something new by you. Downloading.

Tech house, eh? Downloading.

i wouldn't call it techhouse. but i would call it techtrance or just techyprog or whatever. on xa202 jan mentioned that that wouldn't be too out of place if it was released on scanner and this is the same, it has that similar vibe to them.

anyhow, i like this alot, the production is really good. the bassline packs punch and i love all the sounds in the background, they add to the dreary & dark nature of the track. i especially like that one that is a quite distant birdsoundy kind of thing but very metallic and cold. this in general is useful in sets both prog and trancy ones. great job in general

Nice little piece from you here, Nik. As usual, your attention to detail when it comes to percs, dynamics, and synths is second-to-none. I really enjoy the FX and the acidy synth line that hangs around for a while. There wasn't much in the track that really reached out and "grabbed" me the way your productions usually do... this seems to be more of a decent "filler" or "build" track if it were to be used in a set. Then again, some of this is probably pre-conceived notion, as I often take your older productions into consideration when listening to new ones. My brain automatically starts playing "missing" melody lines that I'm always so impressed with when you (and Mart) compose them.

Nice strong kick, and your hats always sound good. I'm noticing a lot of FX noises, and it makes me want to start using sounds like this in my own productions to make them sound as full as this.

Great job... and, more please.

Oh yeah, this was never intended to be a "big" track - I was focusing more on the overall feel and effects rather than the melody this time. I didn't actually mean to do anything serious this time but it turned out to be much better than I anticipated.

Yeah, that's a sound I've been very interested in lately. I actually did an intro to my friend's heavy/death metal band and I've been experimenting with all sorts of sounds lately - this is something I've wanted to try for a long time too.

Not to worry, though - I won't give up on the melodic stuff either.

This would fit in soo many places.

No pun intended!!

Tony said it best, I have nothing to add. Very professional work, as always.

this is really weird, all the right ideas are there, they just don't seem to be together in the right way?
seems similar to a lot of stuff I've heard from 'trance' producers trying to move into techno/tech-house/house, it kind of misses the point (I don't mean that in a bad way at all, it's just an observation)
Production on it is fantastic (the kick seems overpowering at first, but settles in brilliantly as the track progresses)
there's great ideas here but I don't think they've been utilised to anywhere near their full potential.
I'd gladly have a crack at remixing if you fancy making a pack up...

Anyone else is free to tear it to shreds as well.

Love the "Ridiculously long FX"

Yeah I thought the kick is super strong too. The bass is strong and gripping but nice

and the FX sweep long, definitely not samples, what are they/

That's a series of synths routed through distortion & other effects with a lot of automation going on.

Ah new OrgaNik-track. This always makes me interested. Gonna download this one and I will state my opinion soon enough

This reminds me of Ticon, Vibrasphere, Iboga Records and Antix. Has more of a psy feeling than tech-house - prog psy to be precise. You should send this track to Iboga Records and JOOF, Nik, it sounds like something he would play in the earlier stages of his set. Nice prog track like the atmosphere, it's missing a little something but with a bit of work you can make it work well. Add some more pads/synths for a start.

Thanks, but it's just not that kind of a track.

Posted by Philby on Jun-30-2009 01:05:

i really like it, just seems like a spooky prog track to me, not tech house. cool! definitely try sending it to j00f!

Posted by Quethas on Jun-30-2009 07:31:

Ah nice and dark track. This is how I like it Good thing that it doesn't have too much of everything and instead it's focused on the main idea. This is the kind of stuff which is in the JOOF's Deep Mix at the beginning of Global Trance Grooves so come on, send some stuff to labels. You have so much talent!

what a dirty song

(in a good way)

id say a nice followup track after a big song; still gets people dancing but not too in their face

Talent does not equal marketability, I'm afraid.

Though I haven't really been as active as I should be, I'll have to admit...
