What are the best football matches you've ever seen?

There have been quite a number of games that have been forever imprinted in my memory.

FC Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid
Copa del Rey
March 12th, 1997

I remember watching this game as I arrived home from school. I remember almost changing the channel because I just couldn't watch Barca take such a beating 0-3 at halftime. I'm glad I didn't because I witnessed one of the most impressive comebacks in history.

FC Barcelona vs Real Betis
Copa del Rey Final

Awesome game that could have gone either way. Betis put up one hell of a fight and I really wouldn't have cared if they had won because they simply left their hearts on the field.

FC Barcelona vs Valencia CF
Spanish La Liga - Matchday 38
June 17th, 2001

Amazing game by Rivaldo, scoring three goals. Barca needed to win this game in order to go through to next year's Champions League. The game was tied 2-2 and at the 88th minute Rivaldo scored what can only be described as the best damn goal I have ever seen. Total euphoria.

Netherlands vs Brazil
FIFA World Cup - France '98
July 7th, 1998

At the time, FC Barcelona was filled with Dutch players and I really wanted to see the Netherlands go through. It was one of the most dramatical matches I have ever seen. Opportunities galore from both sides. I screamed my lungs out when Kluivert scored the equalizer at the last minute. At the end, Brazil won it in penalties but it was a fantastic match.

Italy vs Germany
FIFA World Cup - Germany 2006
July 4th, 2006

I can't remember watching Italy go for the win straight from the start and play their hearts out like they did on this game. The final that year was completely lackluster but my fucking god, this game totally made up for it. I was cheering for Italy on this one and was once again screaming my lungs out when Italy finally scored.

Real Madrid vs FC Barcelona
Spanish La Liga
November 17th, 2005

The historic match where the Bernabeu applauded Ronaldinho and Barcelona.

FC Barcelona vs Arsenal
UEFA Champions League Final
May 17th, 2006

Barca winning their second Champions League. I suffered this match all the way to the end.

Real Madrid - FC Barcelona
Spanish La Liga
March 10th, 2007

One of the best Clasicos I've ever seen. I was in Panama City for this one and me and a couple of friends went to a local pub to watch the game. The place was packed with fans from both sides and it was truly an epic afternoon. I honestly can't remember having a better time watching a game on TV than this one.

What are yours?

Was at this live:

Still get goose pimples when I see the first goal (57secs), and the second. Was so worried about losing it badly. Just sheer relief. To put it into context they had put out Ajax (who have more European Cups than Man U or any other English team apart from Liv) in an earlier round and beaten Man U the year before.

Draw against Munich in the next round was good too but wasn't at it.

Scotlands wins against France were amazing too.

in person

Mallorca 4-1 Vallecano 2001

A team with a young Samuel Eto'o, Finidi George, Albert Luque, Leo Franco, Miguel Angel Nadal & co were great to watch especially for their counter attacking style. Insanely hot day & Kasey Keller in goals for Vallecano made it a major hazing for him too.

on tv

Newcastle 5-0 Man United

who can forget the delightful chip from Phillipe Albert?

Liverpool 4-3 Newcastle

Yes Bas, they were doing these games pre-you too

Bolton 5-0 Leicester City

first game back in the prem. Insanely good

Bolton 4-2 Aston Villa

Carling cup semi final 2004. 2 great hits from Jay Jay Okocha. Shame Mike Riley fucked the final up for us.

Phenomenal goals. Ronaldinho schooled Real's defence, haha. Rivaldo & Ronaldinho both scored some of the most memorable goals. Sebastian Grosso's left curved technical shot was remarkable WC matches are the best to watch
One of my favourite futbol matches would be the WC 1994 Qualifier - Brazil vs Uruguay. South american futbol displayed some of the best technical skills and players shown as always lots of heart & pride.

not that i have a lot of knowledge in this subject but last year's champions league final was pretty sweet. got me interested in soccer/futbol as a whole only other highlight i can pinpoint was watching ricky martin perform during the world cup...as a teenage girl i LOVED senor ricky but the end of the championship league final last year had me on the edge of my seat, literally

Last year's Champions League final was one of the most boring games in the history of Football. It's like they were both aiming for the penalty shootout from the start.

I would say the same for Euro 2006 as what it occured to me that every single team had the same coach & strategy.
Memorable & awesome CL final, AC Milan vs Liverpool, May 2005. Milano were up by 3 goals at the end of the first half. Liverpool stunned the world by coming back to scoring 3 straight goals and winning in the penalty shoot-out
Chimera's a newbie, try watching some old-school futbol were it was played with heart & pride.

was that the one that finished 3-2?? Kluivert had the run and gun up the left side before taking a step on a defender and bending a wicked shot to the far post?
