Welcome, what kind of get togethers are you looking for. Big room-club, rooftop, small club?
Music?

Also, these Philly guys over on a friends internetforum are always bullshitting about cheesesteaks.

Pat's or Geno's?

p.s. I hate onions.

Questions are...

1) Is it diff from Philly because Philly is so house-oriented?
2) Is it diff because Philly has no scene and LA tries to act like it has a true one (though I have to say I was kinda pleased with the type of crowd at Incognito)?
3) Is it diff because there aren't any fakes in Philly

Hehe....

Just work on getting to know the TAers...or take trips up to San Francisco when you can....the trips will be worth the effort!

welcome salvo
ugh and don't listen to davet, someone obviously pissed in his cornflakes this morning, or well every morning. he's so grumpy
you know i love you dave, but please lighten up

on a side note, salvo, did you ever meet up with a fun, crazy guy named andy hinman(sp) out in philly. in the scene, does a crazy dance, wears and makes shirts called the noodle dip?

anyways, enjoy, LA has lots to offer in the way of music

sarah

Whaaaaaaaa?? What you talkin' about!! I'm just keepin' it reeeeeaaaallllllllllllllllllllllllllll.

LOL, j/k.

I actually was a bit irritable when I posted that. Had been a long day!... I prob shouldn't have posted anything.

But come on, SoCal is the king of fakes (and washing machines... and zombies)...no one can deny this!! That said, I am not talking about any TAs. Can you imagine the LA scene w/o the TAs? Seriously!!!

Anyhow, as I've said in other threads, maybe the scene will grow on me. But I'm expecting dealing with the difference in vibes here constantly being liked kicked in the gut over and over again after being blessed with being in the SF scene all those years.

But if the scene does grow on me, and I really hope it does, I'll be sure to apologize on here for talking so much crap. Seriously. But I'll still complain about the washing machines, teehee. If I encounter more crowds like I did at Incognito, though, I'll be a happy man. But I'll expect the worst so I can't be disappointed. Until this scene proves me wrong.

Or you can bite your tongue (fingers?) until you've had enough time to develop an informed opinion about the scene in LA...

lol i know dave, just giving you shit. and i agree, if it weren't for a lot of the TA's the scene would be ehhh. and the washers suck ass!!!! i hope that we grow on you. it's hard to move somewhere when you loved a place and loved the scene elsewhere.

Welcome to LA Sal...

...as previously mentioned...you wanna check out Incognito party @ King King Friday nights...go to Spider After Dark after 2am (Avalon...Hollywood and Vine)

Saturday nights - Go to either Vanguard or Avalon, depending on the DJ you rather check out....Vanguard goes til 4 and Avalon goes til 7.

Sunday nights - (Dave you need to check this one out for the die hard house fans) Deep @ Vanguard

Monday night - Monday Night Social @ Nacional (Hollywood and Wilcox)

Tuesday to Thursdays I do see house nights at upscale clubs but I don't wanna send you there unless you have a group of hot chicks, you wanna get bottles or you like to stand behind a velvet rope.

Finally I feel like house is getting big this summer in LA...

...thank the Swedish and maybe the French...

Welcome Sal - I'm a relative newcomer to LA (well 18 months and counting - better than dave's 3 weeks ).

LA has a great scene, better than London and NY, IMHO.

If you're into minimal, techno and house - Gerard's advice is spot on - I had suuuuuuch a good time at the last compression I went to (rooftop @ the Standard) and it's a small event so it's good to chat, meet people and vibe is so friendly. 3rd sunday of every month at the standard now.

I personally don't like the crowd at avalon (It's like going to a giant laundromat sometimes) but vanguard suffers slightly less, especially on nights like DEEP (sundays - which is a great follow on from the compression standard party).

Welcome to LA, you've picked a great spot. By the way one thing you should know is that the drinks are on Billy (always)

i dunno about that one Sarah, ive met a lot of great people in the scene & none of them are TA's except for Brian Scott, but i knew him before he was a member here

i have a saying... "cool people gravitate towards cool people" everyone else just gets weeded out

i very rarely dislike the crowd @ Avalon, it just doesnt bug me. im there on a mission... 1) - to dance & 2) - to possibly listen to a set that will blow my mind + the Honey Room has been rockin lately w/all the good talent that has spun there. The Droog guys sure know how to throw down set after wicked set

but for you Salvo, i would definitely suggest the rooftop pool parties @ The Standard. The Droog & Compression guys are getting the talent that u wanna hear. in fact, after brunch w/the mom's we have Dyed Soundorom & Shonky, cup o weeks back, we had Simon Baker who effen killed it & Matthias Tanzmann. Last year was Jamie Jones, Magda & somebody else that i cant remember for the life of me

but you'll see... cruise out this Sunday, its gonna be an amazing day!

Oh, neither. I have a place in Norristown that blows those two places away.

Cheesesteaks
Water Ice
Tastycakes

mmmm

All I do is eat when I travel; quite a problem!
