Where do YOU park at the Vanguard?

I really enjoy going to the vanguard, but these days I really only seem to go there when there's a big name, Armin, Ferry, Markus, etc.

Anyway one of the reasons I don't make it out as often is the nights starts to add up.I mean you get on discount list $15-$20 then I end up spending $25 on parking or something, then a drink or two inside, gas, etc. It all adds up to just going out less.

Anywhere I kind of got stuck in a groove where I always go to the same place to park because it's easy:

One thing to note, I don't park in the Vanguard lot because I think they are valet? I don't want anyone driving my car, I drive a stick. Can I just park there (I think it's only $20?) Or where do you guys park that's cheaper? I just want somewhere that's fairly safe and cheaper then $25 dollars. Can you throw out some suggestions, maybe include pictures if it's hard to describe?

Also, yeah I can split parking with friends sometimes, but sometimes I have to drive in directly from somewhere else and park alone. And sometimes I just end up being the only one who wants to see a DJ.

$8 parking across pantages. what's a 2 block walk?

Posted by mar46017 on May-05-2009 20:41:

Where you park is $20 bucks right? There is also one a lil farther east across the street.

Also the shopping lots on the corner of Hollywood and Gower have been selling spots (you get to keep the key) for $10-$15.

Vanguard parking isn't $10 anymore?

I parked for free in lot "C" a little bit down the street. Another perk to passing out flyers for 5+ years

vanguard parking is cheaper and you keep the key, enter in the back.

having said that, i get free parking too, but i wont tell you coz you might get my spot

I also have an in on free parking. I'm keeping that a secret to myself as well. I haven't paid for parking in Hollywood in 5 years.

Ain't no way I'm giving away my secret spot, or using correct grammar.

But it is free and striking distance to both vanguard and avalon as well as the frolic.

This club/bar (I think?) on Hollywood between Vine and Argyle? I think that's right. I walk by it all the time but I've never been inside.

That was true for quite a few early years for me, but no longer.

The Frolic room is the best dive bar in that area of Hollywood. It's right next to Pantages. The best place to go for the pre-game drunkening. Some nights, I go to Frolic for the pre-game, then forget about even going to either avalon or vanguard. Cool bartenders, decent jukebox, very reasonably priced, especially for Hollywood.

Funny, I didn't wanna mention my free spot either...

Me neither. I've only once paid for the lot in Hollywood (@avalon) and that was becuase there were four of us to split the parking.

There are so many spots for free parking within a 2 mins walk from vanguard. Got to be a sucker to pay $20 (unless you really can't walk )

Go in through the back side of the parking lot and insist that you want to self park. If they say no, start to drive away. Many times they will change their minds and let you park for $10. They want your money. Never valet there though. What a joke.

P.S. I have 8 free spots. Not telling either though.
Just tail the above mentioned people to their 'secret' spots as they are leaving the club.

ouch!

Posted by Jeffree on May-06-2009 00:01:

I always just parked on side streets whenever I went somewhere in that neck of the woods. Never had any problems and always found a spot fairly close. Why would you pay for parking?!

Posted by Funkadelica on May-06-2009 00:13:

If you are coming from 101S towards Vanguard, make a left on Gower St, drive past the first lot on your right. A few hundred feet away you will find a car wash (I think its called Star), you can park there for $10. Its safe and convenient.

One of these days I'll follow one of you to your secret spot

more of like hatton, delahoya, david diaz, barrera, morales etc...

Posted by Nerologic on May-06-2009 05:53:

Fuck parking on the street.

I got my car jacked about 2 blocks away from the Avalon, il pay the 10 bucks for piece of mind...

Some TA's have also been mugged walking to their cars on the streets outside Vanguard. If you're walking alone or don't want to take the chance, I agree that it's best to park in back of the club and insist on self-parking. If they keep saying valet only, then go around the block and park next to Florentine Gardens or the front lot next to Vanguard. If I was coming with a group of people, I would park in the Henry Fonda lot for $8 though.

This. I've always parked in the Vanguard parking through the back entrance. Most of the times they'll let you self park, except for nights like Armin last month where they wouldn't let me self park no matter how many times I asked. Oh well, at least I can go into the club with peace of mind knowing that my car will be there and I wont get mugged on the way out.
