Question for Beatport Users

I never use beatport much, because it hardly has any psy releases, but I have to use it to get some house tracks for the contest in the DJ promotion forum. It seems like some tracks can't be bought individually, you have to buy the entire $20 release. What's the deal with that? That doesn't seem fair to let you buy single tracks on some releases and not on others. What's the reasoning behind that?

Because they want you to buy the entire release. You can try looking for it on other download sites. I'd say just move on to the next release.

Good idea, there were only like 2 good tracks on that release anyways. Other sites have a single track for download that's on a release like that, so I might try looking at places besides beatport. I know next to nothing about House, so this is a learning experience for me

beatport has quite a few psy releases! i've only ever bought a couple of house tracks and i've always been able to get individual tunes. maybe you are trying to get an 'album only' or dj mix release? if you find a track you like but it's only in an compilation release or something, try searching for the track name again because it might be out individually on another label.

As far as psy releases, they do release some new albums, but a lot of times I will see a new release on a place like psyshop or similar that isn't on Beatport.

The way I look at it is this: If it's that good to where I have to buy the whole album, it's not actually that good and there is a track I can use elsewhere that can be bought individually.

outside of checking other download sites for the same track individually, sometimes different labels will have the same track and perhaps sell that track individually (and not require you to buy the entire release). sometimes you just have to shop around...

Bit cheeky to make you buy the whole release, i suppose if its a good release though who cares. I'd agree with the above, if anyone is going to have a single of that track its gonna be the label but if not you probably wont find it anywhere, have a good look around there are a lotttt of download sites!

This.

As for the tactic in general (if you want to call it that), I don't think I've ever felt persuaded enough to pick up an entire release for that one track I wanted, but all in all, the issue doesn't come up that often.

I find territory restrictions are more irritating than 'album only.'
