The venue is an "upscale" SBE Entertainment venue. www.sbe.com

Their venues include Area, Hyde, Foxtail, The Abbey, S Bar that was recently closed, Katsuya (Hollywood and Vine), and XIV Restaurant (previously Shelter Supper Club and Privilege nightclub).

Recently they openened their new line of hotels called SLS (SLS/Ritz in Miami opening in a couple of years), Sam Nazarian also owns Sahara Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas.

Fortunately, SBE venues and other venues have been bringing in more house nights. (Thursday @ Hyde, Sunday @ Foxtail)

Crowd is the nice / Blonde hair, blue eyes (#1 Promoter Brent Bolthoues has been part of SBE for the last couple of years) so lots of eye candy, but not sure how into the music they will be. (you get the "can you play hip hop crowd on a house music night.")

Just came in from being at the SLS. Fairly nice, they spent $230m on decor (the building and rooms were already there) but nothing much more than another wanky hotel with small rooms and fancy bars. If you've ever been to any phillip starck hotels, it's more of the same, and if anything a bit more toned down.

All those places are scenes and they're designed that way to be small and hard to get in to.

Yup Phillip Stark designs most of their places. (another in-house employee they picked up)

And the places are "bottle service" orientated. However, Area is their biggest venue, you could prob pack 1,000 in there...

...they actually set up crazy barricades for the line when Sharam was there about a month ago on a Tuesday night.

yeah but the SLS is a strange one. He has an exclusive agreement with SBE (now that his contract expired with the Ian Schreager group: St Martins Lane and Sanderson in London, Delano Miami, Hudson NY etc.) but he doesn't actually do the interior design placement. He comes up with special pieces for them, and his catalogue of design is bought by them for all the decor, but someone else does the interior design. For that reason, it doesn't quite flow as well as the Schreager hotel designs or look quite as crazy.

Had no idea area was that big!! Hyde only holds a couple of hundred at best I thought? Hmmm...need to get hooked up.....

600 is probably "legal" capacity. Has a great outdoor/covered area. Area used to be Prey, before that it was Gate.

I know there is an Entourage episode that they are @ Prey...Ari's previous assistant (before Lloyd) was with Erick. "What is she doing here?" Ari says.

There is an episode @ Hyde where they come in and shake Sam Nazarian's hand. Also, Nazarian's house in the hills is Vince's house in the last season or two.

Here's a vid I took when Tiesto was bottling it up @ Bob Sinclar @ Area. (that was a night full of eye candy! There were girls getting rejected left and right) Area was known as a place to get rejected, but not anymore, especially on big name DJ nights.

The dancefloor is the area under the lights on the roof.

Area DOES NOT have a funktion one sound system.

The sound system is decent for a mainstream club but house music does not sound good at all there. No bass whatsoever. The sound system there would not even come close to Avalon or Vanguard. Part of the reason their soundsystem isn't that loud is because of constant complaints from neighbors (there are houses directly behind the venue). I've dj-ed there a few times and have cranked the volume as high as i could go only to have the head of security come up to me and tell me to turn it down.

They do however have a very nice LED lighting setup which is very cool.

For clarification, they did bring in Function One speakers for Sharam last month...but it was wayyyyyyyyyy too much bass. (my balls were vibrating while take a piss in the bathroom).

A local dj may have his yearly b day party event there and I suggested Turbo Sound (the speakers they bring in for MNS) instead.

Use to go there monthly when it was The Gate (hip hop club), some of my favorite and most memorable nights.

Saturday nights when Steve was @ the door? I used to go as well. (before I turned 21)

When it was Prey it pretty much looked like Gate but red, but they pretty much just kept 1 wall (to call it a remodel) when then made it Area a couple years back.

Isn't that the subtitle for all SBE clubs? They only seem to last a few years before a name change.

In the past maybe, Shelter and Privilege had probably 10 makeovers. But it seems like Area, Hyde and Foxtail (bout a year or two old) are pretty solid. Sunday night @ Foxtail is Industry night w/ house music. There is house music @ Hyde Thursday nights (though the place has about 100 person capacity)

S Bar closed due to sound being too loud (pissed off some connected lady that lived upstairs). Katana (Hollywood and Vine is still open though)

The SLS Hotel Brand is pretty new (on La Cienega)...SLS Ritz Miami (being made).

Not sure what Sam is doing with Sahara Hotel.

So is it a tough sell to get in? I want to go with a lady friend.

I remember trying to get in on a Weds(popular night to go) and it was a joke, but got lucky and got in (they were asking for 2-3 good looking girls per guy). So Im trying to figure out if these crazy standard still apply on a tuesday. Anyone know?

Not interested in driving 20 miles to get rejected.

No, you won't get rejected. They have been trained not to reject on night such as these.

And here is a presale link in case you are going for sure. Door price may be a lil higher.

http://www.wantickets.com/EventDetail.aspx?e_id=57663

If you need to drop a promoter name, say you are on Chris and Dave's list or Aaomon's list or Steve Castro's list.

...talk to Roya if you need bottle service.

Think the doorman will be Matt.
