PC gaming dead
http://www.shacknews.com/laryn.x?story=58519
This is what happens when you have to pay devellopers' salaries for 13 years without ever getting a return on your investment. There's really nothing surprising about this news.
the surprising part is it took this long! its a shame really, i was looking forward to discovering just how shit the game would turn out to be. Any game in development this long is bound to be atrocious. See daikatana
why would you call this topic 'pc gaming is dead'?
Seeing as how I'm a huge Duke Nukem fan, I would have loved to see this project comes into fruition, even if it would have been a pile of shit.
Still, there IS hope left, as Take-Two still owns the rights to the trademark...DUKE NUKEM FOREVER SHALL CONTINUE.

i have to agree. this whole regenerative health fad is exceedingly gay in most situations.

The plan was actually pretty simple create the longest developed game in history that eventually is one of the greatest games ever made. You have the time to work on it properly (no shit), so given the intelligence and talent of all the people involved, it was a pretty good bet. All 3DR had to do was make money on other stuff. All Epic had to do was open up a wide channel between the two companies. 3DR would serve as a research house for future Epic engine updates, but also give 3DR everything they did as well. The boots on the ground just had to keep the drum beating and keep the image of business as usual going. The truly hard to swallow part of this was some of us had to eventually leave, but we were guaranteed wed be ok. All we had to do was let go of the idea of just making DNF in the traditional way which Im ashamed to admit was easier to let go of than I thought it would be. In fact, with my role in this, I wouldnt ever really work on the real DNF. That was a tough pill to swallow, but again the big picture looked good. |

| Originally posted by biznology i do agree that is is pretty lame, i doubt a 7 year old today would have the patience or tenacity to get anywhere in one of the original mega man games! but at the same time, regenerative health does lend itself to enjoying a game and not worrying constantly about health percentage, finding the next med kit and constant saving vs loading. i HATE it when i find myself saving, loading, savingloading, just to make progress in a game with a story i am supposed to be involved in| (but i just suck at games then i guess) |

At least RTS games are (for the time being) dramatically superior for the PC, eh?

| Originally posted by CONNERMAN2000 Yes, this genre will never be touched due to the mouse and keyboard. Then again, I wonder what an RTS is like on the Wii? That wiimote might make things pretty easy to control. But still, you've only got a 1 or 2 buttons to play with on that one...keyboard and mouse can never be beat. |

| Originally posted by CONNERMAN2000 Yeah, good points. I guess it just depends on the context of the game situation. For instance, in a single player game, yes, regenerative health might be more of a good thing since story progression is a much easier process than if you are constantly saving and reloading your game. It just bothers me mainly with multiplayer, and how people can be bitches and run away and hide all the time, yet still be awesome at the game because their health comes back. It doesn't kill the game experience, but those adrenaline-pumping times of having to sneak around because you have 1 health bar left are gone forever in lieu of this new trend. Also, I would love to see an average, young gamer even ATTEMPT a Mega Man game...did you try out Mega Man 9? Released last year, an entirely new Mega Man game, but it was created exactly like the old ones. Hard as fuck, too. Not enough hard games these days. Didn't you post this pic in another thread at one point? Either way, it appears the game DID get released, and nobody noticed! San Diego just didn't let the word out. |

| Originally posted by SuspicionVandit Yes, I posted it in Chillout hoping for a translation. It's actually a Japanese food market, but they have a section for international software. I thought it was Japanese, but was told it was Chinese by a friend who was unable to translate completely. |

| Originally posted by Halcyon+On+On If it works better, I'm all for change. Too bad mouse+keyboard schemes have worked far, far better on games (especially FPSs) for years now, and are suddenly being replaced with inferior console-friendly schemes and unnecessarily bulky menus. But I'm just bitching at this point. |

The first Halo is my favorite; the second is pretty good too, but the third got old real quick. It's possible for somebody to be really good at any of the Halo games and suck at just about everything else - its an FPS that was built for 'everyone', and it shows. I think that's both a compliment and an insult. But hey, the series is now among the most popular in video games, so props to Bungie.

honestly, considering the control scheme is the big selling point of the platform, the remote is a piece of crap.
