Manny Ramirez

Was just suspend for 5o games ! Now ppl are going to wonder
there winning at home LOL

Posted by DJ Reese on May-07-2009 16:57:

I'm not going to comment much right now because I'm so fucking beside myself I just don't know what to do.
I think the Dodgers will be fine playing in a shitty division. The possibillty of winning 100 games though made me very happy.
As for Manny, I'm just gonna wait for some details to find out what he tested positive for before drawning conclusions. I like the guy and would hate to see another great go down, especially while hurting my team. A-Rod is a total douche so it doesn't bother me one bit with him. Word is it was not a steroid with Manny. It was something his doctor pescribed for "personal medical issues." I'm praying the positive test was from something in an ED pill. Guess we'll see.

Posted by DaveT on May-07-2009 17:07:

If he comes out and says what the drug was and it ends up being something lame, it's not gonna hurt his legacy.

This sounds like that guy who bought something on at GNC and there was something in it not on the label that was banned by MLB.

But the MLB rules are strict and no matter what any label says, it's the player's resonsibility and MLB makes no exceptions.

I would hope to god for Manny's sake it's not because of some ED medication, lol. He'll be mocked for the rest of his career. Can you imagine the signs ad other things fans will make when their on the road? lol

BTW, I can't really stand Manny. Dude is an ego-driven maniac (Manny being Manny)...prob why he fits so well in LA. :-p That said, he is a damn good player when he wants to put in the effort and don't want something like this that's prob nothing in the end tarnishing that.

Another back-handed stab at Dave's current city of residence. Get used to being here!

OK, bickering aside, this story has put a shit-eating grin on my face all morning. I'm a born and bred Yankees fan (flame away, losers), which makes the Red Sox and Dodgers enemies #1 and #2, respectively. To see Manny beat up on my team for years in the AL East and then get busted for PED use in a Dodgers' uniform...just "wow." I'm this close to dancing a jig in my office.

Posted by DJ Reese on May-07-2009 17:46:

Just hoping it's not steroids. Unfortuneately too many players get put in the cheating catagory because of a positive test when it was just a matter of being stupid because they didn't find out what they were taking. Someone like A-Rod who knew what he was doing and did it for a specific purpose, and someone like J.C. Romero of the Phillies who just didn't do his research, and it wasn't even a steroid. I'm hoping that's what it ends up being with Manny. He never struck me as the cheating type. But no one ever doubted his ability to do stupid shit. He's got to come out with what it was or we have no choice other than to call bullshit.

You're such a bitch sometimes, Jeremy. I took a direct shot at the Dodgers, and Manny in particular, and you don't come back at me? Boooo!!!!!

This is Torre's penance for his tell-all book about his Yankees days. We can chalk this season up as yet another in which the Dodgers will be bounced out of the playoffs early, if they make it at all.

Posted by 72hrpartyanimal on May-07-2009 17:53:

ahhhh haaaaa! Reese is a bitch.

Posted by DJ Reese on May-07-2009 18:27:

I'm too up set for good comebacks at the time. Dodgers will still win make the playoffs and Manny's back in July.
You know what's gonna suck though...working at Chase field for the next 50 games. I'll never hear the end of it. I'm gonna be forced to comeback by talking shit about the D-Backs which could cost me at work and home.
Now we know the drug. HCG it's called. Doesn't look good.

Posted by drEamer on May-07-2009 19:29:

its some sort of womens fertility drug? Octo-mom and manny have the same dealer?

Posted by Andrieux on May-07-2009 19:34:

FUCK MANNY AND THE DODGERS

Posted by drEamer on May-07-2009 19:34:

hCG can also be used clinically to induce ovulation in the ovaries as well as testosterone production in the testes

As hCG supports the corpus luteum, administration of hCG is used in certain circumstances to enhance the production of progesterone.

In the male, hCG injections are used to stimulate the leydig cells to synthesize testosterone. The intratesticular testosterone is necessary for spermatogenesis from the sertoli cells. Typical uses for hCG in men include hypogonadism and fertility treatment

In the world of performance enhancing drugs, hCG is increasingly used in combination with various anabolic androgenic steroid (AAS) cycles. It is included in some sports' illegal drug lists.

When AAS are put into a male body, the body's natural negative-feedback loops cause the body to shut down its own production of testosterone via shutdown of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis (HPGA). It is a common misconception that estrogen will be elevated post cycle. Generally, estrogen is below a normal level after a cycle.[11] High levels of AASs that mimic the body's natural testosterone trigger the hypothalamus to shut down its production of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus. Without GnRH, the pituitary gland stops releasing luteinizing hormone (LH). LH normally travels from the pituitary via the blood stream to the testes, where it triggers the production and release of testosterone. Without LH, the testes shut down their production of testosterone, causing testicular atrophy.

In males, hCG mimics LH and helps restore and maintain testosterone production in the testes. As such, hCG is commonly used during and after steroid cycles to maintain and restore testicular size as well as endogenous testosterone production. However, if hCG is used for too long and in too high a dose, the resulting rise in natural testosterone will eventually inhibit its own production via negative feedback on the hypothalamus and pituitary.

Well with all I've heard and all I've been reading over the past few hours, this doesn't look good. Can't really see any good excuse Manny can come up with for taking HCG. Fuck man! I was so happy yesterday. Dodgers break a record. Lakers win a playoff game. Today is all about Manny's and Lakers suspensions.
You guys up north are just eating this shit up aren't you?
Let me just give you a "suck my balls" right now since I already know what's coming.

Bwaha!! Hell ya, LA is my biznatch for awhile lol.

And I moved down for good on March 30th. It's only been a month!!! This place will grow on me...just have to meet the right people.

It's up to you all to get the city to grow on me!

Posted by DaveT on May-07-2009 20:48:

Wow, sounding like this he took something much more severe than first indicated...

From teh sporting news...

Either Manny Is a Woman, Or He Was on Some Sort of Steroids Cycle

---

ESPN and Yahoo! report that the banned substance in question is human chorionic gonadotropin, or HCG, which is a female fertility drug. I realize that means nothing to you, so here, let Wikipedia explain exactly why a male would be injecting himself with this:

In males, hCG mimics LH and helps restore and maintain testosterone production in the testes. As such, hCG is commonly used during and after steroid cycles to maintain and restore testicular size as well as endogenous testosterone production. However, if hCG is used for too long and in too high a dose, the resulting rise in natural testosterone will eventually inhibit its own production via negative feedback on the hypothalamus and pituitary.

In other words, you take it after youre finished with whatever steroids youre taking so that you dont turn into a woman. Basically. So while he didnt specifically test positive for what wed traditionally consider steroids, he tested positive for a drug that a male would only take after having done steroids. Smoking gun, and all that.

ESPN.com says it can be used instead of steroids altogether, but then he's still running the risk of not being able to produce testosterone....and that HCG is "similar to Clomid, the drug Bonds, Giambi and others used as clients of BALCO."

The DODGERS will be ok....although, did you see the lineup for today? The 4 and 5 hitters have a combined 0 homeruns this year, LOL!

It was like a kick in the balls this morning when I heard about this. Being a lifelong Dodger fan, it hurt bad, especially after last night victory....Im still numb.

If the Dodgers play .500 ball, We will be 46 and 33 on July 3rd when we are in San Diego and Manny comes back. Manny will be fresh and out to prove some shit. Reminds anybody of last year?

Dodgers are still going all the way.

Manny would deff. not hit a home run of Marshell ! He hit the
ball like it was a golf ball !

Kruk and Kuip said on teh Giants pre-game this morning that we shouldn't feel happy about what happened today, and this is bad for baseball. But after taking so much shit as a Giants fan for YEARS because of Barry Bonds, god today felt great.

Imagine if the Giants had end up signing Manny?

Are you serious? There is a big difference between the Bonds and the Manny situation.

Bonds was a complete asshole about the entire situation, laughing in our faces while denying it to this day.

Ramirez admitted he did the drug in question. He apologized. He knew what the consequences were and he's accepting them. He's not being an asshole. He has been nothing but spectacular for the Dodgers, has caused no negative controversy until now, and right now he's fessing up to what he did.

The Giants really have nothing, and have had absolutely nothing to cheer about for years now, so I guess naturally, they will jump on every opportunity to bask in the aftermath of this horrible news.

Sorry guys, Lincecum cant pitch everyday. Enjoy the series this weekend.....

Dodgers 0-1 since Manny's suspension.

I have a couple things to say about that:

1) Manny (and his agent) does have the benefit of seeing what happens in the media when you a) deny b) keep your mouth shut c) fess up to only half the truth, but omit other parts of the truth.
(See Barry, McGuire, A-Rod, etc, and you'll see examples of that.)

2) It was something prescribed by a doctor???? That is an EXCUSE - how many men do you know that get prescribed female fertility drugs
Is having having some problems with his ovaries?
Manny may be accepting the judgement, but he is not admitting he did steroids. Manny may have been positive in attitude, but now everything including his world series vicotry is in question...in other words, he's still a good guy in the eyes of his fans cause he only got caught now? PALEAAAAAAAASE.

This probably would be 100x worse if the Giants had signed him. I admit, I wanted them to sign Manny, and would still rather have him on our side, but that wasn't going to happen.

not here to start a war. Teams are just teams, players are just players. I'm not a part of any team, or friends with any of the players, so in the end, who cares (unless you are a Raiders fan then you actually think like you are part of the team/gang/whatever lol)
...but in the end there are more guys cheating than we realize, and they are on your team, mine, and others. They're a product of the baseball system. Why today they still think they won't get caught, I have no clue....

alright...let's get back to trance!

What irony coming from a fan whos team featured BALCO Barry Bonds for so many years.

Steroids were everywhere brah. This isn't about any particular team. I've lost so much respect for the game over the years.
