Dunno Star Trek Reviews... anyone?

Anyone seen it yet? Is it as cool as it looks?

Worth checking out... I thought it was entertaining.

I watched it in IMAX and it was action packed! The comedy relief was also great!

I wish the story line was a bit longer but a must see.

Great movie, one of the best this year so far.

Saw it last night and really enjoyed it. The visuals in the movie were very well done (although a bit heavy on the lens flairs), and a number of scenes were "omg that's damn cool".

I liked the story, and was nice to have an enemy other than the Borg and they did a good job at making them seem pretty menacing. Movie is pretty action packed and not so much on the train of "exploration of distant worlds", although really did set up the franchise for a good future.

Even if you're not a Star Trek fan, the movie is worth checking out.

Saw it yesterday night, it was pretty good.

I'm not a big starwars fan but the movie was still interesting, engaging and well directed and written.

I wouldn't say that. This Star Trek just shits all over the Star Wars movies. Easily the best Sci-Fi flick I've ever seen. The one gripe I had was the pacing of the plot though. It was too fast. Wish they slowed down a tad bit to flesh out the characters and background info a bit more.

Yeah, I felt they shouldn't have skipped 3 years that fast lol

Went to watch it yesterday...

Thought it was great.

Definitely a fantastic and intriguing expansion on the (two?) most engaging character(s) of the franchise, and the history behind that whole crew.

Easily one of the best movies from that whole line too...

Posted by rabbitjoker on May-11-2009 18:10:

star trek, star wars, star search...

easy to confuse.

star gate.

Excited to see this.

t'was good. Got a little 'trekky' for me at times with the throwbacks to the old series, and I thought it was a little pressed to pack too much back story in [ie, introducing all the characters] detracting from the plot. That and the whole crew seemed like they're still waiting to hit puberty. But the actual action was good, as well as the effects, story, casting, etc. Particularly, Kirk and Spock were cast very well, although scotty's accent went from scottish to irish to american by the syllable.

And yeah, the comedy had it's moments too. One of the 'real' spock's lines towards the end made me laugh pretty hard.

Oh, but one more thing....Would it be so hard to make the Romulans look like the Romulans from the series? I mean com'on, do we need another inconsistent make-up job a la 'the kingons'for the star trek series? Jeez, you're just embarassing yourself Mr Roddenberry.

Never watched an episode in my life. Had no idea what the storyline was, going into the movie theatre. I thought it was very entertaining and had tons of action packed scenes. The main blond dude was nice eye candy for me too There were random one-liners that got the theatre laughing that were obvious inside jokes that i didn't get... at least that's what i thought. lol
8/10

I thought the throw-backs to the Series were well placed and didn't distract from the movie for me. A few moments were a bit cheese, but really - what's Star Trek without a little bit of cheese factor?

Was probably the best/most entertaining Trek movie I've seen - hopefully they do a few more with Abrams and that cast, although would be nice to see the next one slow down the pace a little and develop the plot/characters/etc, but for sort of a "restart of the franchise", I think this movie did very well. Entertaining for people who are a fan of the series, but also accessible/fun to watch for people who know nothing about Star Trek or haven't liked it in the past.

Main cast members have already signed on for two sequels and the script for the second is already complete. Will be showing in 2011.

the good
- young kirk
- spock, this character is brilliant on so many levels
- the sound effects in this movie were next level

the bad
- the plot is a fucking mess, this movie tries to take on WAY too much
- really lame blockbuster style action scenes
- the main villain and his storyline were WEAK
- romulus and vulcan being destroyed haha so stupid
- the movie missed the mark when it comes to highlighting what makes Star Trek brilliant, it's mythologies/ideologies were lost in a sea of character cliches and action scenes

Posted by ChemEnhanced on May-12-2009 16:57:

I hope to see it this week....but Star Trek isn't Star Trek unless there is a TV series...they really need to bring back a series to television.

I agree, some very unusual universe changes. Spock and Ohura a couple?
