I was pleasantly shocked earlier today

Blank & Jones are playing, and producing, somewhat decent deep house!

fucking hell, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Examples?

check out the two productions on the chart, i could see myself fitting either one into a future gig.

That link doesn't seem to work for me, but I checked out all their new stuff on beatport just now, and I assume I know what you mean. Good tracks.

What are some similar tracks/artists I should check out? I'm not too knowledgeable on this type of sound so new or old will do.

Yeah, I understand they're responsible for the soundcolours label now. It put out a very nice deep sort of compilation called chilltronica which actually had some dubby sort of tech house from memory. Good on them I reckon.

Interestingly, Armada recently released surfaces volume 1, which is something like a tech house compilation, and actually has some stuff I might play some time.

this is not the first time i've heard about this, might have to go check it out.

what worries me is if this is just big labels attempting to cash in on the tech/deep house scene and gonna send it to shit in the process with cookie cutter artists.

backtrack to any luke fair set over the past year - a lot of gems to be found.

shur-i-kan spins/produces good house, same with daniel kyo. jim rivers of course... the timewriter... ben watt and anything off his label - Buzzin' Fly.

hmm... i'm sure i could keep going, plus this is just what i'm into these days. there's a lot of scattered artists too, that might've just put out one of two good tunes. but once you cruise through some sets from ppl mentioned above you'll stumble onto them.

OM (label) is a good place to start if you want to get exposed to the more "mainstream" and vocal side of house. peeps like fred everything, older stuff from kaskade and miguel migs. etc.

have fun with it.

Thanks dude. I have your Jamie's Bday mix and the Summer 08 mix, though I don't remember them off the top of my head, and I'm downloading your winter mix. I assume I'll find some similar tracks in there. It's funny, I have a load of big room commercial house, progressive house, electro house and french house, but hardly any deep house. I think I've found so far that deep house is often too boring and needs a bit more funk. I know what kinda sound you're refering to I think, so this will definitely be my next alley of music to venture down.

Check out my set: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...0&forumid=73&s=

I can recommend more Deep House sets by fellow TA's that you would like if you dig this one. Let me know.

Alright I'll give that one a go too. I guess I had always found more of the "softer" side of deep house, if that makes sense.

Right now I'm half way into this Winter mix from Denys, and this is exactly what I was hoping for. I would definitely never sit down if I was out right now.

Meh, the album has some pretty decent house tracks. I wouldn't call it deep house though.

Looks like they've matured a lot though. From epic tracks like 'The Nightfly' and 'Watching the Waves' to this.

it has some progressive overtones on it, but definitely "fitting" for a deep house set.

The tech/deep house scene already is shit, so hopefully if these big labels cash in on the "trend" maybe the sound can fuck off once and for all. Then Clovis can slit his wrists.

Posted by elFreak on May-13-2009 20:57:

yeah it just started yesterday and has no hope to ever last.

The prog/trance scene was shit, so happy those big labels cashed in on the "trend" so it fucked off once and for all. Now Nostalgic slits his wrists daily.

damn some of there new shit is pretty good cant deny,

Posted by MeLLyMeL on May-14-2009 04:11:

wow. I was not expecting the tracks they had on their list!

The poolside remix song is cool but I could do without the vocals.. on all their tracks. Not bad though!

Posted by Clovis on May-14-2009 04:38:

Blank & Jones have bad taste.

Posted by elFreak on May-14-2009 04:42:

i have to agree , this is fruity loops on crack at best.

already happened, imo. a lot of new "tech/deep house" all sounds exactly the same to me.
