American's Trying To Commentate Football
I was on yahoo.com lookin at all the latest world cup scores when I seen this quote from an American commentator describing USA's second goal against mexico;
"... Mcbride caught the playball under his soccer shoes and scanned the left zone for a wide open playman. He swung the soccer ball over the far left danger area where Reyna ensnared the ball closely to his feet, then played the soccer ball in at a horizontal angle where it was met by mr Landon Donovan and he upper bodied it into the back of the score bag..."
what a laugh... SCORE BAG!
that was probably a direct traslation from another language. probably spanish since the game was against mexico.
granted most of us dont watch soccer...but we arent THAT stupid about it
yer, but Mexican's call a goal a goal, not a score bag... it can't be a translation.
And Mexican commentators normally just shout goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaalllll!
no dude, Americans are stupid but not THAT stupid. A goal is a goal. that transcript must've came from some up-tight-english comentator
hahaha...
Yes we are stupid and rather boring wiht are commentary but we do have a decent little irish co-commentator on espn. Tommy Smith is his name and he's pretty damn good...
"Roberto Carlos can hit it in the ball park"
"...and were going to have overtime"
after they said score bag they said
'to give mexico a double negative stat'
what the fuck does that mean its 2-0 not a fuckin stat
TRANSLATIONS
AMERICAN TO THE REST OF THE WORLD
TIE : DRAW
OVERTIME : EXTRA TIME
BALLPARK : PITCH
