Review: Alex Kenji, Footwork...

Well, I didn't know what to expect walking in. I own a fair amount of his tracks, but I hadn't yet heard a full set - and I was unsure of what direction it would go in. However, a few tracks in, I knew I'd be pleased.

He played continuous bangers; great techy house, with the occasional enchanting vocal ambient track. I would have enjoyed a couple more melodic inserts, but overall, I was more than satisfied - I'd absolutely check out another set.

He's a good person to watch behind the decks; lots of little tweaks here and there, great sense of breakdown usage, and overall an exciting DJ to watch play.

I wish, however, that someone would have pulled the people out of the booth before, as expected, one of them managed to smack the pause button while doing some super fantastic hype dance. Weaksauce.

Cheers footwork for a great night! I'll definitely check out Kenji any time he comes to town!

Glad to see some TA's out there as well; you guys make the nights legendary

Probably checking him out tonight @ BoomBoomRoom... thanks for the heads up!

Showed up at 3 drunk as a skunk. The end of Kenji was decent from what I remember and Jon Jon brought the night home in style. First time closing down footwork (what took me so long)

Hmmm, sounded pretty solid right up on the bass bins... I didn't venture from there, so hard to say.

I will agree though, I love our locals every bit as much. I wish I didn't have to leave at 3, I always love a good Jon Jon set. What was the vibe?

The night is a big blur....but a good one. The vibe in FW last night was !! everyone was yelling at Kenji, at eachother, the crowd was just amazing last night. The set was FUN, really, really FUN. He is great, thank u SASHA for booking him. You rock.

I also loved that he was there early, feeling out the venue, the crowd, the music. It seemed like he really played for crowd that was there...and he really PLAYED. He looked like he was having as much fun as we all were on the dance floor. I wish he was a TORONTO resident DJ, he would fit in perfectly here! I hope he's back soon.

Kotov and Wilde's opening set was great too. They def. got the place going i don't think i've heard a bad set by these guys yet!

Damn right!!!

Shite...seems I missed a great night. This was one of the rare Fridays I didn't make it out. Looking forward to making it up in the coming weeks.

He was wicked in Windsor too. He draws a great musical line thats easy to jump in and out of, no peaks or valleys, just solid all the way thru. Aleks was awesome too, great warm up set. The peeps were all impressed!!

Better late then never

We got there around 11:30 and HUGE line up... but they seemed to be trying to get through it quickly. We got in and the place was filling up quickly, nice to see on a Friday.

Kotov and Wilde didnt do it for me. I felt the first 20 minutes sounded the same. And it took a long time to get some where. Their last half hour picked up for me but I have heard a lot better from the boys.

Alex Kenji is the cutest little thing ever. lol. I liked the first few tracks he opened with but then he lost me for a while. He doesnt really play my ideal style so Im not really the best person to write a review, I found it a bit to tech/mininalish. But the crowd seemed to be loving him. I enjoyed the last 40 minutes or so, it got me dancing a bit more, it was more energetic.

Jon Jon then came on and saved the night (for me). He opened up with some more techier sounding house tracks and smoothly transitioned into the 'Jon Jon' style. Finally I could DANCE - it was fun, happy, energetic. Daft Punks One More Time and a the BEST version of Diamond Life were are the two tracks that stand out. I havent seen Footwork that busy till the end in a while. The whole dance floor was going off. I smiled his entire set

Sasha congrats on a fabulous booking. You and Jon put together a fabulous party.

Ok Here we GO

WHAT A FUCKING NIGHT

i'm so glad i made it .... such a close call ... but i don't think i would have forgiven myself for missing it ....

the vibe was absolutely crazy i have seen Footwork like that in a long time

Kotov and Wilde not really my thing either, they seem to be really interactive with the crowd and playing what they wanted to hear ....
re
As For Alex Kenji, i felt the first hour was him trying to establish the vibe he wanted in the room and get everyone ready for mayhem... and that it was .... it was a journey through house, i found he controlled the vibe in the room, and give few breaks from the hard techy sound, and towards the end picked up the pace even more with a number of his own productions I am certianly biased but IMO ALEX KENJI IS NOT TO BE MISSED .... i eagerly await his return ...

Jon Jon came on after Alex Kenji i will say did what i didnt think possible and brought the party to the next level ... the place was pretty well full at 5 am which was nice to see ...

such a good night

+ certain friends + an epic break = amazing night
