Question about Mixing Trance without Touching EQ's

Oh man, I have been practicing and it seems so damn hard to mix trance without touching the EQ's....

I know for a fact, many big name DJs like Tiesto, Armin...all ultilize EQ's to mix.

My question to all the experts out there:

Have you ever mix a, say, 60 min set without ever touching the EQ's (ex. cutting off basslines after you beatmatch)?How do you do it?

My brother seems to be able to do it everytime and it sounds so sweet....but the downthing is that trance is pretty messy with all the synths progressing after each phrase.

I have been trying but it sounds like a pack of Hyenas farting simutaneously. Can someone direct me on how to ultilize the EQ's? Are there any ground rules to this method?

simplies of all ways:

once beatmatched,cued, and phrased correctly, cut incoming bass,maybe some treble. at end ofphrase (32 maybe 16 beats) slam fader to middle, wait for next phrase (or whenever itsounds best) and switch basses (incoming to full, outgoing down,not all the way tho,or it sounds tinny.) you can switch bass fast, or slowly, depending on tracks. thats the easiest way to use eq's.

I never cut the bass on the live track, I only lower it a little bit because otherwise you will notice the bass drop. It's better to have it hit a little too hard than to drop it too low because it's more noticeable to the crowd.

Ok guys, he's talking about NOT using eqs.

About the only time I can do that is if the incoming track's kick is weaker than the outgoing track's. Otherwise, 9 times out of 10, they just end up cancelling each other out, or amplifying each other.

You might try REALLY LONG fades with your volume sliders, that might do the trick I guess. You'd just have to feel it exactly so that when the kicks start amplifying and/or killing each other that you adjust the outgoing track just barely down enough to stop the effect.

I have been doin that for a long time, because my first mixer was crap and didnt even have eq's. I pretty much figured it out, they have to be exactly matched, and unless the kicks are in a similar key, it will sound weird. This method works well in key matched songs, but it others its just pure crap, hope that helps some.

one question.. why would you want to mix without using the Eq's? Do you have a mixer that doesn't have them or something?
