Movie Review: Terminator Salvation

Well well, what can a I say about Terminator Salvation? Terminator 3 is better than this. That's for sure. It's hard to believe that they spent $200 Million on a movie like this but no effort of any kind in the script. Sure the special effects and the action sequences are fantastic, but take that away and you get yourself a very generic, dumb plot(which is a complete mess). Arnold is sorely missed in this franchise.

The Good
-Utterly fantastic special effects
-Amazing production
-Cool action sequences
-The new t-600 and t-750 are amazing designs
-They have the damn Terminator theme in it
-Good movie length

The Bad
-The ending was a little weak
-The ending provided no closure...just left it open for another sequel
-Not enough time spent on the back story and what happened 2003-2018. -Horrible acting
-Storyline is fucked up
-Strip away the action, the movie becomes unoriginal
-Some poor editing
-John Connor is piratically worthless in this film, Marcus wright proved to be far more interesting

And last but not least

Keep Going down

A little more

Just a bit more

Spoiler!!!!!!!!

>Arnold is in the movie. As predicted he has his face digitally grafted onto another actor. An interesting concept for a cameo but still he is sorely missed. all the rumors of his involvement were true.

I had a feeling it was bad, due to the amount of ad time it had.

Thanks for the review sir

Just came back from seeing it... to be honest you had to realize it was in a war and there couldn't be much story within it. it was action packed and had lots of excitement. part of the reason why i think they didnt show too much was because they are planning on having 2 other movies after it. they didnt divulge much in this movie.... which leads me to believe we'll be seeing more.

this isnt the end to this franchise. i didnt think it was the most horrible movie but all 3 movies lead up the the war.

a war is a war, bang bang boom. and i think there will be more to this franchise than this movie.

Was it me, or did you guys find you didnt really get into any of the characters? McG was not a good choice for director maybe? A lot of potential wasted in this movie. Was still good, but just there with Wolverine in terms of satisfaction.

Agreed.

It has its moments, but nothing special overall.

7/10

spoiler:

The Arnold scene was wicked--especially the opening with the music.

I don't even need to see this movie to know it is Terminator meets Charlies Angels. McG is not a good director and I have no idea who let him do this project. But to those who did see it already and gave us the info, thank you.

But is it a definate theater experience???

Or wait for the Blu ray???

Posted by Dior Homme on May-22-2009 13:57:

The director was terrible. I didn't even know until when I sat down in my seat that he directed both Fantastic 4 movies. I cringed when I heard that.

If youre a fan of Terminator, its worth checkin' out. I enjoyed it, it just had potential to be a much better movie. Im definately blaming the director for failing to make the script much more than it could of been. Hopefully they pick another director for the next one.

Apparently Christian Bale was first cast in the role of Marcus, but then he decided that he wanted to play a more iconic character from the storyline. When he suggested he play John Connor, they told him that John didn't have a very big role in the film. Well.....thats when he threw a temper tantrum and demanded a rewrite. So the whole script was rewritten JUST so he could play John Conner....

Interesting, I could see how this affected the whole script. I felt as though something was done wrong, cause the story sounds great, just executed poorly. The character depth felt lacking, with the exception of Marcus's character which is just a bit better than the rests. The story is a bit spoon fed as well, they could of easily added a few surprises for the viewer.

Terminator bots + theme song + war

how can this be bad an not worth seeing on a 50 ft screen?!?!

When I read an article a year or two ago about the movie my understanding was that that was the point. They want the trilogy to focus on Marcus, it's not supposed to be about Connor.

Its not bad at all, its entertaining, I liked it more than say Wolverine, but not as much as I enjoyed Star Trek. I always wanted to see that future post apocalyptic world where man battles machine that Kyle Reese explains in the first movie. Action was great though, cant lie, but a movie cant shine alone on the action...unless youre the transformers franchise.

going to see this at the drive in tues

5 bucks! .. its worth it for the shiity movies

I know what you mean mang.

And Malek, Wolverine was pretty meh, but im sure we've seen way worse. Star Trek seems like the movie of this summer, im not a huge Transformers fan so im happy to think that i've already seen the best summer blockbuster this year.

wow I'm so disappointed
what an over-pompous ass he is I thought it was director's role to cast characters

finding that out kinda makes me want to punch Christian Bale in the throat. Did they not tell him that the sequels were to focus more on Markus' character??? that Markus would end up being as iconic as John Connor? He probably should have taken Markus' role instead of Johns 'IF' that's the case.

As for the movie.....i saw it last night. I thought it was pretty good. It seems like the series is getting back on the right track after the HORRIBLE 3rd release.THE SPECIAL EFFECTS IN THIS MOVIE ARE FUCKING GREAT. Tons of action, blowing up shit, robots......def. worth seeing just for that....IN THE THEATRE. I've never felt a theatre rumble so much, it was well done in that sense. I actually wish John Connor's character had been more of a tough guy, he was kinda a pussy in this movie. I loved Edward Furlong as John Connor, because he was such a little badass punk with attitude....and i could totally get him becoming the leader of the resistance. Christian Bale in this movie was Mr. Nice Guy, and was kinda lacking balls. Def. the key character in this one was Markus, he was far more interesting (and important) that Connor....so if that was the point (for the sequels), then they succeeded. Wasn't Connor supposed to be the HERO though??? wasn't that what all this was all leading up to? If so, he was pretty overshadowed in this one.....so i'm a little confused on that. I agree that the characters could have been better written, I also didn't really feel overly connected to them.

but still.....def. worth the $13 to see it in the theatre. I give it a 7.5/10
