Cleaning your ears
I was wondering if there was a better way than q-tips. I feel pretty dumb asking this since I am a Registered Nurse, but I'm just not quite sure how professional musicians keep their ears clean and I want to know how.
thx
Ive red about people that go get their ears flushed. I want that too. Q-tips are no-go. U only push stuff longer in and it gets harder and harder.
You can get a Dr to use a syringe to suck it out. Q-tips like once a week are fine. Pushing it back in is what people tell you to scare you away from using them. Yes you do push some of the wax back but that's why you use them right after a hot shower when the wax is very soft and sticky.
u get these drops from the chemist which u put in once or twice a day for couple of days to soften the wax.. then u go to doctors to wash them out...
TA: informative, topical, classy.
I clean my anus with rubbing alcohol
there's an ear cleaning solution that uses a tiny bubble syringe, i've had the same bottle for a year, use it twice a month before a shower. q-tips are extremely dangerous, don't do it!

Ive used q-tips all my life, and have never had any problems. But I realize
there could potentially be some issues using it, if youre not careful!
I thought that's what Q-Tips were for? :\ is it more dangerous that you'll damage your hearing or that you'll poke your brain?

I use a 1% solution of hydrogen peroxide. You can get it anywhere, Walmart, CVS. I use an ear syringe to put the hydrogen peroxide is my ear. I guess that's what you call it, it's a rubber bladder with a pointy end, that you squeeze to suck up liquid or squirt it out. Let the peroxide stay in your ear for about 3 minutes. It fizzes so can get quite loud. It neutralizes ear wax. After that, I wash my ears out with warm water, using the syringe again. Then I put straight alcohol into my ears, to dry out the water.
You can also buy the ear cleaning kits, usually labeled "wax softener". I only use those when I get a totally clogged ear, which has happened only once.
Speaking of which, I'm due for a good ear cleaning.

You probably shouldn't clean your ears at all. Most of the methods available have a (small) risk of damage. Ear candling in particular can damage your hearing badly if something goes wrong. Why do you want to clean them anyway? Is your hearing dull at the moment?
The best way to clean your ears is by using chewing gum. The chewing action naturally breaks up, softens and cleans the wax.

Ears aren't really something you should need to clean other than just a general cleaning with a wash cloth. Your ears automatically push the excess wax out. The wax inside your ear protects it so it is a really bad idea to get rid of it. And a ktip will just push the wax deeper.

Q-tips are the worse thing you can put into your ears. They're only supposed to be used to clean the outer part of your ear. When you put them into your ears, you're only making things worse by pushing the wax buildup further into your ears (as one of the first posters already said).
I use Debrox to clean out my ears every few weeks, which is basically what your primary doctor will use as well. The only difference is that the doc has a fancier hose to flush out your ears. I wouldn't necessarily say that I can hear better after I clean out my ears, but they sure as hell feel a lot better afterwards.
I'm surprised no one here uses a pencil eraser!!!
