Review: Loco Dice at Footwork
Might as well start a thread for it...
So I have no idea when we got in, around 11ish maybe? Hardly a lineup to get in.
Saw the usual gang and met some new faces last night. Didn't really hear much of the opening sets since I was chatting with friends and spending most of the time outside.
I never really focused on time last night but I think I went back in as Loco had just come on. Musically he brought a good vibe that got me movin' and groovin' right when I found my spot on the dancefloor.
The good tunes continued for a while, and I was having tons of fun.
I think the law of diminishing returns applies to DJ's as well. I felt like the more people that were in the booth, the more the vibe was brought down (although not always the case). It was at that moment when I felt it going downhill. It must've been around 2:15-2:30ish that I felt the vibe was really brought down. It was a really dramatic difference and I was not feeling it at all. It was just heavy bass line after bass line, and didn't have that energy that he had brought in the beginning of his set. It was kinda hard to dance to and the crowd was standing still at some points.
He would reconnect every now and then with a great track. It would build up so well, but then right when you expect it to slam through the sound system and into your chest...it didn't. Kinda anti-climatic. And it was getting tiresome.
I stepped outside every now and then hoping to come back in to a better vibe each time, and didn't, so I strongly contemplated leaving. I stuck through it and it finally improved. Not back to the energy level he had in the beginning of the set, but he was getting there. Ended up spending an hour and change chatting outside, came back in around quarter to five or something like that?
Here's where the fun came back. Although tired, I had stuck it out and was glad I did. The energy in his set went back up. While I wasn't crazy about everything he played during this time, it definitely got me moving again.
Ended up staying til 5:40ish. Apparently he played til 6:30?
Other stuff: The crowd wasn't too bad at all last night. Couple "odd ones" but whatev.
Overall, the people around me made the night so much fun, I had a really great time. See you next Saturday Footwork.

WOW 630! Im shocked! Erein is normally waiting at the booth at 5am to give them the shut it down signal (not that I blame her lol)!! Ive never seen it go past like 515...
great night indeed
loved all sets (Junkies were on fire when we walked in around 11 or so!), first time seeing Loco - I was uber impressed with his track selection, he set an amazing vibe
C, you were right - I chose a great night to make my comeback to FW

I had a great time. I don't think I've danced that hard for months. Really hot in there, but I shouldn't have been wearing jeans I guess.
Loco was certainly up and down. I guess he gives you enough time to shake your head and return to reality before drilling the bass line again. Perhaps it's the ear plugs, but many of the tunes sounded very similar - what can I say, this is TRANCE Addict.
Nice to meet a bunch of TAs. Hope your foot's ok, Funky. Sorry about that.
After looking at your posts, not sure why I had it in my mind you were a dude, ~C~
I'm pretty sure I've never seen a birthday cake in a club before. Certainly a night of firsts.
It was unfortunate to lose a member of the group so early into the evening, but at least we have confirmed The Ear's stomach is not made of iron.
Great friends, great tunes, great vibe. Yet another excellent evening at Footwork.

Junkies = bangin opening set. First time I've used up just about all of my energy before the main event.
As for Loco Dice; I've been a fan of his productions for many years now. Saying that, his live set was pretty solid for me - at least until life responsibilities pulled me away early
However, I have faith in your call Mike... I'm glad I didn't force myself to stay. I really enjoy one track in particular - birds chirping away, a full on amazon vibe baby. Tribal feel keeps resonating with me live lately.
All in all, a great night at Footy. Thanks Jon for the guest list as always - I love that place.

That was one of the most agreeable nights at FW for me in a while. Lots of friendly faces make for great dancing. Loco Dice whomping on the bass just got me moving again every time I started to slow down.
The weather was so good I spent a lot of the night outside, and met some interesting people, but every time I got it in mind to pack it in, I would catch the sound of the bassline through the door, and it just pulled me back in.
TheEar was an unexpected casualty, a fact which I believe deserves as much mockery as possible.
See you all next time.

| Originally posted by ~C~ I had a great time last night. Carlo and the Junkies def. played good openers. I enjoyed Loco's set for the time that i was there (i def. didn't last until 6:30 though! wow!). I got what i expected to get from the night. Lots of tracks with deep, pounding basslines. For me it's ALL about bass. His sets are a little raw, there's really no other way for me to describe them. Sexy techno/tribal. AND NOBODY in my eyes drops a bassline like him. He knows how to make clubs rumble, and booties shake. I love him. LONG LIVE LOCO DICE. |
