hey hey...

Please enlighten me about the trance scene in Australia...

After coming to this site, I have learnt more about the state of trance in Australia, but I still don't have much of an idea. Are there many Australian trance djs or producers? Are they actually good?

Well, if you're talking about straight-up trance music (Armin, PVD, Ferry Corsten etc.) then no, we don't have many dj's or producers at all that I know of. Certainly none that have been heard of overseas.

If you want to extend trance music over into the progressive genre however, then we have a fairly decent array of producers/dj's. The most famous, of course, is Anthony Pappa, who attained worldwide notority in the trance scene because of his remix of Chicane - Offshore '97 and then his own production "Skydive" under the alias of Freefall. Then we have DJ's like Kasey Taylor (who's getting plenty of gigs in the UK and being plugged heavily by John Digweed) and Sean Quinn, who both have produced part-time, with tracks that have made it kinda big O/S (in the progressive scene anyway - although I'm pretty sure that Quench is one of the two, in which case their track - forget the name - actually charted here and O/S) and then the more techno oriented DJ's like Gab Oliver and Simon Digby who have also produced stuff that's been taken to O/S.

Then there are progressive labels in Australia like "Zero Tolerence" that are among the most famous progressive labels in the world. In the progressive scene, Australia and Isreal are the two countries producing a disproportionate amount of stuff, and its lead to world-wide notority in a sense. But that's only really progressive though, and not really any other genre.

If you want a list of Aussie artists that people may have heard of overseas, then perhaps this may help:

- Anthony Pappa
- Our House (Sean Quinn + Kasey Taylor)
- Cass
- Freq Nasty (apparently?)
- Nu Breed
- Madison Avenue ( )
- Bluephaze
- Ocean Wave (Kasey Taylor)
- North Atlantic
- Infusion

And I'm kinda struggling beyond there actually. There are other famous DJ's producers of course (BeXta/Endorphin et al) but they haven't really been able to breach the overseas market.

However, the scene is becoming so much stronger here, so it's only a matter of time before one of us Aussies does something big to make everyone take notice.

hopefully anyway.

Anyway, as far as I can tell the scene here isn't too big. We got Tiesto and some more coming but no locals.

the local trance scene is non existant...there are quite a few hard trance djs who will occasionally play a decent track but 90% of their sets consist of really shit music

I didn't know Pappa was an Australian! I didn't know anything about the progressive side of Australian music either... hmm, intriguing ...

yep, real trance only comes out in sydney when the internationals come around, which is a real shame but hopefully something that we can fix.

Can i suggest you guys check out Altitude at the Dendy Bar on 5th July. (I know i have posted before, but hey - it's a good thing

It will hopefully quench all your thirsts for melodic uplifting trance and we hope to start bringing out the internationals as well.

Lets not forget dj peewee ferris. I think his track genesis was played by tiesto going back a few years now.

yeh Pee Wee is pretty rockin and his track Genesis was also [layed by PVD @ Home, London in 2000. Awsome track! I really think that more trance DJS need to get into clubs like Altitude cause I reckon that haeps of Aussies love Trance anf Uplifting Trance but there are no club trance DJS. Hopefully Altitude can turn this around!
Hopefully one day i can play uplifting trance there!

Trance in Australia isnt a thing, and i dont mind about that. Just means that we have something to look forward to when the international's come down under. And anyway, progressive house/trance shits on straight uplifting trance...and judging by Renegade's post, we're doing pretty well for ourselves in that department

I don't mind the hard-trance either .. Yoshi and PeeWee generally put on good sets, Mark Dynamix also has his moments....

But yeah, it's always puzzled me that events with trance DJs are always packed, but promoters only seem interested in regular house/funk/disco/rnb/crap parties...

Well, I'm a bit sketchy on it to be honest.

I know for sure that he was/is living in Sydney, but I'm not sure whether he was actually born here or how long he has/had been living here.

But there's an Aussie on the HoM who swears that Cass is Australian, so if he's not then it's this guys fault not mine.

But yeah, like I said, I'm sure he was living in Sydney at least as of the beginning of this year.

but he loved here for a year in 1996 and was a resident dj at some shitty club in sydney..obviously gone to bigger and better things!! hehehe

Cass isn't an aussie if it's cass of cass and slide fame. He just lived in Sydney for a bit. However i think there are a lot of good aussies in just about every type of trance, josh abrahams is also an aussie isn't he? And in a slightly different area love tattoo? On a slightly different topic, any body have any idea if there is a site similar to tranceaddict for techno or tech-house style stuff? I just REALLY want some Sven Vath, Dave Angel, etc style techno as i happen to like quite a few styles of electronic music. mmmm WANT! :-) I just don't like most of the others as much as prog trance....... !

Quench a.k.a CJ Dolan is Australian. Quench is known for the trance classic 'Dreams' which is an awesome track. Quench also had a top 40 hit with 'embrace the sunshine' a year or so ago which is a horrible song in my opinion.
