athens and mykonos?
next week, im going to athens for three days and then off to mykonos for eight days. anyone have any helpful pointers, clubbin info, etc, that may be helpful?
(i wish i could take a quick plane ride to ibiza, but hopefully i can find funtimes on mykonos)
I did exactly this a few years ago.
First of all, 3 days is way too long in Athens. You can see almost all the historical stuff in a day. Halfway through day 2, you'll be itching to get to the islands.
I'm not sure where you're staying in Mykonos, but I stayed at a hotel about a mile's walk from the "downtown" shopping area. Tons of restaurants, bars and clubs there. During the day we shopped and ate, by the afternoon we made our way to Paradise Beach/Club Paradise (you can get here by renting a scooter, which is a must), by night we partied wherever we ended up. It is not a big island, and you can follow the music to the parties. Have a great time! 8 days is a nice long time.
you can do athens in 1 or 2 days, not much to see there beyond the ruins, some good eats and venue club to the south. the city itself is a crowded mess though. mykonos is gorgeous in a commercial way, but you really don't need 8 days there. just make sure you check out cavo paradiso on a good night. sometimes greece gets a sick dj like hernan or satoshi in town, many other nights it's supercheese eurodance music. santorini is the most naturally beautiful island of them all though. i would NOT skip a 2 day excursion to that island... natural volcanic mudbaths, white, red and black sand beaches, and a gorgeous village perched precariously on the edge of sea cliffs with an breathtaking sunset every evening. it's actually the most expensive and sought after location to have a wedding in the world.
Cavo Paradisio is a must.

Good advice above. 8 days is a long time on Mykonos. I would consider taking a few days to visit another island or two. I've never been to Santorini, but it is def up for my next trip.

I'm going to Crete for the fourth time next week. It's a big island and like CND said, a rental car is highly recommended. Are you going to the east or west side of Crete? West has Elafonissi, the most beautiful beach I've ever seen, and Chania town. East has Knossos which is definitely worth visiting and my favorite town, Agios Nikolaos. Btw, Crete has the best Greek food!! But where-ever you eat in Greece, never eat at places that look even semi-fancy or have mainly tourist customers. The tavernas with crappy looking seats that don't match and with a bunch of locals hanging out there are usually a guarantee of good food

So, I'm still trying to figure out my Greece bit.
Flying into Greece on July 14 and heading to Athens on July 18.
Was thinking of just Mykonos for those 5 days, but thinking of Santorini too/instead of.
Want to really just relax and lay on the beach (after 8 days in Ibiza beforehand)... what are your suggestions? I have a decent budget, so $ isn't too much of an issue.
