No love: modern media and the internet

I'm so sick of seeing youtube clips played on the nightly news and lazy reporters in newspapers writing things like: "user 'wimplepimp' wrote on such and such forum that the attacks were a shocking act of cowardice."

It seems that in the past 18 months it has become acceptable for mainstream news outlets to use the internet as a source for their reporting, and it annoys the hell out of me. Four reasons:

a) By the time it makes it to the television/paper, we've already seen it; you've missed the boat. Get some fresh, "real" news.

b) Shit quality youtube videos being broadcast on high definition digital television.

c) Get some fucking accurate sources! The internet is perhaps the biggest bullshit artist in the history of lying. In fact, if the internet was a person, it would be OJ Simpson.

d) Laziness. Do some work and get some real news. The fact that they're all reporting stuff from the internet indicates that they're doing the same thing the rest of the population does all day: surfing the net instead of doing what they're supposed to be doing.

The Internet can be a good source sometimes, but yeah, I don't think that random forum posts or YouTube should be quoted as respectable sources of information...

One of the commercial channels here actually had a show where a bunch of z-grade celebrities sat around showing off 'meme, youtube crap they found on the internet' as the program. I forgot exactly what it was called, not entirely memorable... not running any more thank god.
News shows do it because its cheap.
30seconds of some kid getting their arse kicked on a shaky mobile phone recording saves hours of actually having to do something aside from make biased comments.
