New Beat Sound (1987-1992)

Anybody digs the New Beat sound? What are your favourites? I absolutely love it. Have been collecting various rare and hard-to-get New Beat CDs and vinyls.

Hard Beat - 1st Compilation

and the entire "New Beat - Take 1-7" series, starting with:

Miss Nicky Trax - Acid In The House

A Split Second - Flesh (wrong speed for New Beat though)

Lords Of Acid - I Sit On Acid

Probably because New Beat was a shortlived late 80s-genre, when pretty much everyone on this forum were either just born or just about to start school (including me).

I have a gig coming up on the 20th of June that is mainly gonna be industry/EBM music. I'm definitely gonna throw just a old new beat set to open the night off. It would go perfect with old EBM like Front 242, Swans, Oomph!, etc.

I had a new beat phase couple of years ago when I explored the genre in detail, however I don't remember too much of it nowdays. It's interesting that, even if it was a very shortlived genre, it had two substyles (if you can call it that): regular new beat and acid new beat. My favourite track is definitely Space Opera Theme (you can easily hear where European (especially Belgian) techno has its roots). Other classics are of course I Sit On Acid, early Oliver Lieb classic System, Fatal Error, Public Relations, Ibiza by Amnesia, Rainbows by Jade4U, Suck The Beat by New Beat Generation...

Early R&S had a lot of new beat gems and is definitely worth checking out. New Beats The House by Greyhouse is one of the finer ones from that time.

Yes, thats a good one. Time Modem is a highly acclaimed techno/new beat production. Oh, and this CD from BOY I got recently which was decent:

Welcome To Technology

This BOY album is absolutely phenomenal, though it was released originally in '85:

Moskwa TV - Dynamics + Discipline

This was the New Beat bomb, of course from Belgium.
Confetti's was the name of a club in Antwerp:
