Sales Numbers for Tracks
Hi, does anyone know how many MP3's are sold in online stores like Juno, iTunes, Beatport?
What's a good number, in general? What are some numbers for famous, less-famous, and obscure artists and genres?
Just want a ballpark idea from someone who's familiar with business. Thanks.
deadmau5's not exactly sold 30,000
Twelfty.
why is it so difficult to get a simple answer?
so many losers with nothing to do in their lives...

i would say generally artists receive 30-40% of online sales.
based on that the average income for a dj/producer i think it's between 4000-5000 a month.

Hey, you said "average," not "top end."

My studio would look like Legowelt's:

Or Robert Babicz's:

both are nice, soulwax has a nice studio too, especially their vintage mixer
also, check out the macbeth m5n, it's actually a rather 'affordable' modular analog synth, reminds me a lot of doepfer

I'd love to see more of Holden's studio. There were a couple of pictures on his website and it looked sick.

I guess most of the income comes from gigs you play at once you're known for the tracks you produce.

| Originally posted by a98 i don't know if this was a joke, but this is so not true. excluding the mainstream/pop side of things i would say only the biggest house artists make this amount, i doubt many of the big trance artists even make this much with their tracks. house seems to sell a lot better, but i'm sure even there for every top selling track there's thousands of tracks that don't sell anything. in trance i think over 75% of artists only sell 10-250 copies, which results an income between 5-125 euros. so unless you make a hit track every month or about 15-20 non-hit tracks, there's not really any way you can make a living with producing only. |
