Manga thread: Katsu! [Boxing/Romance/High School]

So I figure I'd try this out... I'll post up a manga, a chapter every other day or so and people can read it online and whatever...

I'll only post up unlicensed in the US manga thats been fan translated to english.

This is Mitsuru Adachi's Katsu!

i've tried reading manga in the past but it just bores me when i know i could just watch the animated version of it, not to mention most manga comes in black and white . i know people who can really get into it but i guess i can't see what they see.

BUT i'll check this out, see if it stills bores me

I don't think there is an animated version of this. His earlier works from the 80's were animated after their manga runs.

Check it out, its an OK story. I wanted to post up one of his first mangas, but I figure a story with boxing might be a bit more interesting. Most of his stories involve high school sports.

Thanks, haven't read any of that before. I don't have much experience in manga since I've only read Chobits, some Love Hina and like one chapter of Death Note so far but I will check this out later when I have more time

Ill skip this one. While i like high school themed mangas, i can never get into sports themend mangas(School Rumble & Ouran High School host Club FTW (^_^) ).

Its not that bad of a sports manga, Adachi does them right with an equal balance between sport and story progression, usually with a romantic focus.

Touch is his masterpiece, probably considered one of the best written manga and best adapted animes of all time.

How does it being Japanese make it creepy? This could have easily been written by a western person and take place in a North American country or European country and had very minor changes to the story.

Manga is just another medium for telling a story. Thats how it is at least for me.

And when is a fascination with a foreign country a creepy thing ever? As long as its not an obsession it is probably more enlightening than anything. Statements like yours reek of ignorance and the closed minded attitude shared by most people in the United States regarding anything outside of this country.

If comics are not your thing then that is fine, but placing the issue solely on them being from a foreign country is, at least to me, borderline racism. That seems really odd when coming from someone in a minority group like yourself Mario.
