PJ Harvey -- Down By The Water (david bu hau 2009 remix)
I haven't heard her name in a long time. Good stuff.
Firtst of all, I haven't heard the original, so no justice in how well the remixing is.. Just a fast review as I listen.
Tone down on the kick, make it fit the track better. It's just banging madly!
The synths needs some work, they sound too "standard" and boring.
Is it you who have made the cuts in the track or is it the mp3 that is bad?
There is a high frequency pad or something in the main part. It's like knifes to the ears. I can't see the purpose of that sound at all.
Now for the good parts
The vocals are pretty "rocky" so the track fits them pretty well.
Good choise on the bassline even though it's standard as he**.
Overall a really cheesy track that misses some stuff. Add some effects and work on cool sounds. Tight the kick up with the rest of the track, make it punch instead of banging. Play with the vocals, make it crazy, stuff like that catches the audience.
Take care
this is great i love stuff like this!i scour sites looking for bootlegs and mashups of something unique like this.
this is something that your really not going to see anybody doing a remix of,at least not currently.i love the obscurity of the track you chose to do.i just got a bootleg of an Iggy Pop Track and this is along the lines of that to me.something so far outa left field people dont see it coming.as someone who remembers this song i couldnt wait to click on the link to see what it sounded like and i wasnt disappointed.
cheesy? maybe but if you play this at peak hours in the club and your the kind of dj that doesnt play cheese one track after another your gonna be forgiven for playing this. its gunna throw people for a loop!
this is the kind of bootleg i play for a crowd and maybe like 3 or 4 people know the original. and im scouring the crowd looking for those people too.because when you see the look on those peoples faces when this comes on theyll be like OH MY GOD!!!
and then youll see them either talking to the friend next to them about how they loved the original and then start dancing to it or trying to find their friend in the club who also used to like the original so they can scream OH MY GOD NO WAY!!! and then start dancing.how many of us here have done that in the club? i cant even count how many times i have.
those 3 or 4 people at that moment are the only people im focusing on at that second.cuz they're the ones that are going to come up to you at the end of the set and be like "i cant believe you played that pj harvey song!!'i love reactions like that.
a prime example of this would be Randy Boyers mix of Champagne Supernova.you hear this drop and you see people running up to their friends like AAAHHHHH OH MY GOD YEAH!!!...you get the idea.
you could extend this track or maybe make the beat or vocals a little crazier like someone said.take Just Jack- Doctor Doctor for instance.cheesy?oh yeah but listen to the Hot Pink Delorian remix.its so off the wall crazy that it works.i drop this on my show and people are like man what is that song its crazy.they would never listen to it if they hadnt heard it the way i play it.
but really its not like its necessary to do anything else to this track.i consider this a "fun track" something played around with to use to have a good time dancing to.its not like your looking to get it signed or anything.it works fine as it is.oh and keep it banging.the bassline works for the track.
overall good job!! and if you dont mind im going to drop this on my radio show this saturday.if its a problem let me know before then.ill keep my eye out for more things by you!
