Christopher Lawrence at Social Club in Sacremento on Thurs
Okay, it's getting spooky. It's my second trip to Sacramento this week and both times my fave Dj Christopher Lawrence is playing up there, this time at the Social Club. Can't say I've ever heard of it, although looks like Ruby Skye is involved. Can you anyone give me more info on it as I'm def thinking of checking it out.

Ruby Skye is on every flyer for that place for Thursday nights...must be helping with the bookings on Thursday.

I live in Sac and I pretty much hate every bar/club in the Sacramento area. But, with that said, I have actually been to Social twice now and I actually really like the place. Good crowd, good venue, not too crowded (for now at least), and REALLY good music. I saw Marquez Wyatt there a couple weeks ago and saw Dj Dan there last Thursday. I'd say that 80% of the people there are there for the music which is really nice. It's nice to have a place that's close and has that San Francisco vibe. Definitely check it out.

It seems as though Ruby Skye is doing a similar thing to Giant and their OC club. It's good branding and helps to place the DJs midweek.
I remember going to Ruby Skye quite frequently when I lived up in Seattle, we used to commute down to San Francisco for a weekend of clubbing. Their new venue in Sacramento looks nice too.

The difference is Ruby Skye is an actual venue/club. Although they have thrown events at other venues (like David Guetta will be at the Regency Center, had Tiesto at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, in Tahoe, Reno, and in Sacramento, etc)
Giant is simply a promoter/production company. They don't own the venues. They jsut hold nights in Pheonix, OC, SD, LA, and Vegas from Wednesday - Sunday I believe. It allows for package deals with DJs/agencies to be made...and DJs like it because when they are in SoCal, they just drive from gig to gig each night instead of flying...and if they have to fly, it's a short flight.
Spundae is also able to do similar things with them holding Fridays at Ruby Skye, being a part of Avaland on Saturday nights in LA, doing events in San Diego again at Envy & Ivy Rooftop...though the extent they can do it is a little limited since Spundae has no problems booking trance acts in SF while Avalon basically has a policy now that says no trance DJs...so when you see a DJ play for Spundae/Ruby Skye on Fridays and then down at Avalon on Saturdays, it's always prog DJs.
Ruby Skye helping in Sac on Thursday nights might help them (and Spundae) on Friday nights in the future...for example, CL plays in Sac on Thursday then at Ruby Skye on Friday. Might've been a package deal, I dunno.
In the end, packaging gigs between venues & cities are becoming more prominent, at least out here on the west coast...unofficially of course...this is all just going by trends I've personally seen. :-p

so hos was it?
Social is a real cool spot right in the heart of downtown Sac. The inside looks sick and there is an outdoor patio for smoking and fresh air. Got there early around 10ish, there was a nice little crowd there, all dancing, all hot girls. I am pretty sure it was Jeff Thompson who opened up and he played a great opening set. But then DJ Diggler came on and ruined it. Mind you he is opening for CL, but he decided to play everything from funky house, commercial cheese, I think I even heard breaks
And the crowd kind of dwindled after that. I was trying to figure out how CL was going to transition into his set from the crap Digg was playing.
And Sacramento was up to its old tricks again. This is from CL's Facebook: " I am in for a rough night..Someone just asked for Def Leppard -"Pour Some Sugar On Me". God help me. I haven't even gone on yet!"
Oh goodness. I saw two girls eat shit on the dancefloor which was hilarious. One of them was trying to go up to the booth and take pics with CL but she didnt quite make it up there.
CL made due with what he was given. He went from prog to full on psy at the end of the set. A nice small crowd enjoyed his set and danced until close. Watching the strippers dance in front made everything worth while visually.
I wished there was a larger turnout but just didnt happen this night. I really like Social and know that it will be the spot to be if you like EDM in Sac. All the staff and bartenders were friendly and not dicks like at most other spots in Sac. They have a cool line-up for the summer and hopefully will stay busy.
Thanks again Chris, Nancy and Tad for the Goose!!!!!!
