Shame / Disagreement Metal thread!

I just thought that this joint needed some more diversity.

Favourite Bands? Artists? Festivals?

Posted by LoveHate on Jun-12-2009 00:12:

no.....

Posted by notelfreak on Jun-12-2009 00:16:

not really metal but i hammered sonic youth non stop at work today.

Posted by RapidFire on Jun-12-2009 00:21:

dont think I like metal in particular. maybe a few songs here and there. closest band thats to my liking (and its a stretch) would be Rage Against The Machine.

Posted by ChriSiZm on Jun-12-2009 00:22:

I'm expecting like death threats for this so yeah. Should get some more traffic through the site.

Posted by ChriSiZm on Jun-12-2009 00:24:

Good to hear that people out there like something other than Trance, It's good to have a wider spectrum in my opinion. Rage are cool and so are Sonic Youth

I love pumping the uplifting trance but I'm also a dies hard fan of Megadeth and the whole Thrash thing.

:/

I actually quite like Fear Factory, though that may have do with Rhys Fulber being an unofficial fifth member for a while.

(folks around here probably know more of Fulber's other project with Bill Leeb, Delerium)

Metalcore

(also some nu metal and melodeath and modern heavy).

Favourite artists:
Burzum
Cradle of filth
Abigail williams
Sun O)))
Atreyu
My dying Bride
Funeral Mist
Gorgoroth
Satyricon
Tvangeste
Graveworm
White Zombie
Suicide silence
Agalloch

and thrash vocals really piss me off, I can see why black metal was invented.

I listen to a lot of metal. It's mostly progressive extreme metal, sludge/doom and so-called post-metal, stuff that ties in with my passion for progressive rock. Some of my favorite bands are:

Opeth
Gojira
Mastodon
Neurosis
Cult Of Luna
ISIS
The Ocean

I'm seeing Neurosis live the 1st of july, absolute awesomeness.

Between The Buried And Me [Huge favorite of mine]
Opeth
Agalloch
Dillinger Escape Plan
Lamb Of God
Isis

Just a few random names, some of this may not really be the specific type of metal people think of, but close enough.

edit: damn SMC beat me to a few. I haven't listened to the new Mastodon album yet, how is it?

I dunno if this classifies as metal, but awesome track.

Those are all great bands. I've listened to BTBAM's "Colors" a bunch of times and it's absolutely breathtaking, they're just such a tight band. I've been planning to listen to all their albums from the beginning but haven't gotten around to it yet.

It's great. They've expanded on the progressive rock element of their sound, it's not as heavy as previous albums, it's more spaced out, atmospheric and narrative with long songs and a really cool concept/story. It's still very much a heavy record, though, Scott Kelly of Neurosis guests on one track as usual.

Here's a video to "Oblivion", one of the shorter, more accessible tracks on the album.

Mastodon "Oblivion"

Black Sabbath is the prototypical metal band.
